Summer Camp CIT and Program Coordinator

The Summer Camp CIT and Program Coordinator is responsible for assisting the Camp Director with day-today operations of summer camp programs including the CIT (Counselor in Training) program for Rising 9th and 10th Graders. The CIT and Program Coordinator helps plan, organize, and execute the summer CIT schedule.  Duties include planning and teaching the daily CIT training period, communicating with parents, overseeing the CIT evaluation process, and managing any difficulties within the CIT group that may arise. Duties also include assisting with field trip logistics, guiding staff, resolving conflicts, managing camper behavior and teaching valuable youth development skills. Other duties include planning and executing camp activities such as community gathering, celebration, and special events.

Pay range: $ $25.75/hour; starting pay based on qualifications. This is an hourly, part-time position, consisting of up to 37.5 hours per week.

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Summer Camp CIT and Program Coordinator is responsible for assisting Camp Director with day-today operations of summer camp programs including the CIT (Counselor in Training) program for Rising 9th and 10th Graders. The CIT and Program Coordinator helps plan, organize, and execute the summer CIT schedule.  Duties include planning and teaching the daily CIT training period, communicating with parents, overseeing the CIT evaluation process, and managing any difficulties within the group that may arise.  Other duties include planning and executing camp activities such as community gathering, celebration, and special events.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

External and internal applicants, as well as position incumbents who are or become disabled as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, must be able to perform the essential job functions (as listed) either unaided or with the assistance of a reasonable accommodation to be determined by management on a case-by-case basis.

 Develop curriculum for the CIT training to prep participants in this program to be counselors/ staff and plan a complete, interactive training program for the CITs (Counselors in Training). Coordinate and implement training program throughout the course of the summer. Supervise and direct CITs and take primary responsibility for their care. Record CIT progress, including at least two written evaluations of each CIT. Ensure program quality and consistency by reviewing adventure group schedules and providing coaching to staff and counselors as needed. Plan theme days and special events on Fridays. Coordinate with Summer Camp Director to ensure program activities and meetings have guidance and leadership. Assist with specialized programming (Arts and Crafts, Music and Drama, Sports, Science, etc.). Work with community to plan weekly themes, skits, and special events. Bring creative twists and fresh ideas to programming. Assist in leading the on-site summer program, including meetings, community gatherings, scheduling staff, planning activities, being "on-call" with radio, ensuring daily tasks are accomplished. Assist staff/counselor triads that need additional guidance with camper behavior, scheduling, program development or group dynamics.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

 

Education and Experience

 High school diploma or equivalent required; Minimum of two years' college coursework preferred. Prior experience working at a summer camp, and/or experience teaching or running sports or recreation programs.

 

Special Requirements

 Must be 21 years of age or older. Must agree to and pass a CORI and SORI Background Check, the cost of which will be borne by the Town. CPR and first aid certified (recertification available during staff training).

Work is performed primarily outdoors during the summer months. May be subjected to moderate variations of temperature, noise, odors, etc.  Work may be performed indoors in a relatively noisy work environment, with constant interruptions.  Frequently subjected to the demands of other individuals and the volume and /or rapidity with which tasks must be accomplished. 

Must be able to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time.  Balancing, crouching, grasping, pulling, reaching and stooping may also be required.
