Overview

The Public Works Equipment Operator I performs a wide range of semi-skilled and skilled tasks, including heavy manual labor and equipment operation, to maintain, repair and assist in the construction of municipal streets, alleys, facilities, right-of-way areas, and other city infrastructure and properties. This position is also responsible for the collection and disposal of municipal solid waste, recycling, and yard waste, as well as working at the compost site.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains, repairs and performs construction related activities of city infrastructure.
  • Operate a wide variety of heavy and light duty equipment, attachments and trailers to fulfill all functions of city operations and engaged in maintenance, repair and construction activities.
  • Perform regular heavy manual labor in connection with the collection and disposal of solid waste, recyclables and related materials and load into collection vehicle.
  • Perform patching, crack repair, fills potholes, concrete work, overlays, and spray patching.
  • Plow snow, deice, hauls snow, shovel, snow blows, and mix and apply deicing and anti-icing products.

Qualifications

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • Possess, and continues to maintain, a Class A Commercial Driver's License with no Air Brake Restrictions and with Tanker Endorsement within 18 months of hire. Driver's License must be unrestricted except for corrective lenses and Automatic Transmission Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV).
  • One year experience in the operation of construction or infrastructure maintenance equipment, or in related field.
