The City of Raleigh Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources (PRCR) Department is seeking candidates that have a passion for providing exceptional customer service and a commitment to serving others. This Facilities Maintenance Technician - Parks Aquatics position will focus on providing exceptional experiences for our park patrons by providing service to our aquatic facilities through maintenance and repair of crucial systems that support healthy environments. Raleigh Parks supports year-round aquatic facilities, seasonal pools and splash pads.

Duties and Responsibilities

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

  • Performs maintenance and repair on HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems to ensure safe and efficient operation of aquatic facilities
  • Inspects equipment and building systems regularly to identify issues early and maintain a safe environment for staff and visitors
  • Keeps facilities operational and presentable, handling general maintenance and coordinating major repairs as needed
  • Prioritizes and schedules maintenance requests, ensuring timely responses to keep operations running smoothly
  • Supports event setup and guest needs, including power access, lighting, and temperature adjustments
  • Assists contractors and collaborates across teams, providing access and support for specialized repairs or renovations
Typical Qualifications

Education and Experience:

High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalency and 1 to 3 years' experience in routine/minor electrical, plumbing, carpentry, mechanical or related maintenance work

OR

Any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted

Licensing and Certifications:

  • Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in commercial swimming pool maintenance and operations
  • Certified Pool & Spa Operator (CPO), or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
  • At least two (2) years of related experience in plumbing, electrical, or HVAC work

Work Environment and Physical Effort:

Medium: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Work Environment:

Work is typically performed in an office or similar indoor environment. Employees may occasionally work in an outdoor environment, confined space, warehouse environment, or shop environment or in a vehicle.

Work Exposures:

There is frequent exposure to extreme cold (below 32 degrees), extreme heat (above 100 degrees), and moving mechanical parts. Employees may occasionally be exposed to individuals who are hostile or irate, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals or substances and loud noises (85+ decibels average over 8-hour working days such as heavy trucks, jack hammers, leaf blowers, lawn mowers, construction).
