NUTCRACKER BACKSTAGE CHAPERONE JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Chaperone to Ballet Austin Student Performers

REPORTS TO: Jessica O'Brien & LB Flett

COMPENSATION: $16.00 per hour – # hours and schedule varies

POSITION SUMMARY:

The primary responsibility of Nutcracker chaperones will be to supervise and assist Backstage Managers with student performers (children ages 9-18) at The Long Center.

· Part-time temporary position during the dates of Ballet Austin's run of The Nutcracker (December 1st, 2025-December 23, 2025) You do not have to work all hours.

· Hours will be scheduled based on production and staffing needs and staff availability. There are weekday evenings, weekend afternoons, and weekend evenings. Applicants will have an opportunity to select any or all dates to work, and will be scheduled as needed.

· Each "shift" is between 4-5 hours.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist with check-in and check-out of student cast members at the Long Center (may be outside in weather).
• Chaperone/supervise student cast members in backstage dressing room area.
• Assist with hair and costumes as needed under supervision of Production Staff.
• Supervise student cast members to and from stage at performance time.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Pre-screening application and Criminal Background check completed and on file with Ballet Austin.
• Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Ability to work within a professional production environment.
• Dependable, reliable, and on time.
• Willingness to follow directions and procedures in a busy environment.
• Ability to work with children/students.
• Ability to give directions to children/students and maintain order.
• Experience working with groups of students is preferable.
• Ability to work within a team setting.
