Job Summary

Jacksonville University invites applications for a non-tenure-track Instructor position in Psychology to begin in Fall 2026. The area of concentration is open to both applied and research areas, with strong preference given to candidates who can teach in developmental, health, or neuro psychology. The candidate will teach four courses per semester, which may include Introduction to Psychology, Research Methods and courses in the candidate's area of expertise.

All candidates must have at least a masters degree in psychology by time of appointment (August 2026).We especially welcome candidates who can broaden the range of courses we offer on diversity, equity,inclusion and belonging (DEIB).

Faculty positions at Jacksonville University require commitment to teaching, university service, and scholarship. The Psychology Department has approximately 150 majors, 80 minors, and 3 full-time faculty members, so faculty teach a wide range of courses. Psychology faculty also frequently teach courses within the College of Arts and Sciences' DEI minor and certificate programs. The successful candidate will teach four courses per semester, which may include Introduction to Psychology, Research Methods, and courses in the candidate's area of expertise. Those candidates who are selected for our short list will be asked to submit a JU faculty application, three letters of recommendation, sample syllabi, and evidence of teaching effectiveness (e.g., student feedback or peer evaluations). Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Instructor of Psychology

  • Will teach four courses per semester, which may include courses such as Introduction to Psychology, Research Methods, and courses in the candidate's area of expertise

  • Must participate in departmental, college, and university service
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • The ability to teach a broad range of lower-level and upper-level courses
  • The ability to incorporate technology into classroom teaching and to teach online and hybrid classes
  • The ability to supervise and conduct research and supervise student research in area of expertise (for those seeking a tenure-track appointment)
  • The ability to work with diverse students and small class sizes
  • Participation in departmental, school, college, or university service
  • Excellent oral and written skills
  • Time management and organizational skills
  • The ability to work in a collaborative and cooperative manner
Education, Certificates, Licenses, and Experience:
  • All candidates must have a masters degree in psychology, with tenure-track positions requiring a Ph.D. in psychology by time of appointment (January or August 2025).

Physical Requirements:

  • Manual dexterity to efficiently operate a computer keyboard and other business machines
  • Adequate hearing to communicate effectively in person and virtually.
  • Near vision sufficient to read written communications and computer display screens
  • Stamina to teach up to 24 hours weekly.
