Summary:

Performs unskilled and semi-skilled manual work in the construction and maintenance of electric facilities; performs work in a safe manner according to construction standards; assists in other duties as directed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Loads, unloads and carries materials, supplies and equipment.
  • Places barricades and warning lights around work area; keeps work area orderly.
  • Digs holes for poles and anchors by hand.
  • Pours and finishes concrete.
  • Operates air hammer, air tamper, small trenching machines and various other types of small equipment; operates department vehicle as assigned.
  • Assists in setting and removing poles and anchors; assists in applying pole treatment; assists in the construction and maintenance of wooden, steel and concrete structures.
  • Performs work necessary in the construction and maintenance of ducts, conduit, transformer vaults and other electric facilities.
  • Checks tools/equipment and keeps in order.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma or Acceptable Equivalent (i.e. GED).

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to communicate (verbally) in a clear and concise manner with work associates and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Accuracy in basic mathematical calculations (i.e. addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) and knowledge and application of units of measure.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking in routine and non-routine functions of operation, maintenance and construction of overhead and underground electric utility installations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Valid driver's license from the State of Mississippi.
