As a Senior Materials Scientist, you will be at the forefront of innovation, driving advancements in materials science and packaging technologies. Responsibilities

  • Spearhead the formulation, sourcing, and specification of materials for plastic and metal food packaging, ensuring optimal performance and sustainability.
  • Collaborate with vendors to pioneer the development and qualification of novel materials, pushing the boundaries of packaging technology.
  • Lead materials-focused projects from initial concept through full-scale production, ensuring seamless execution and alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Design and execute experiments, including pilot and manufacturing trials, to rigorously test and validate material performance under various conditions.
  • Employ analytical techniques such as FTIR, GC, DSC, TMA, and rheology to comprehensively analyze data and establish correlations between material properties and performance metrics.
  • Provide expert technical support to project teams, customers, and manufacturing plants, resolving complex issues and ensuring smooth operations.
  • Author detailed technical reports and ensure strict adherence to regulatory compliance standards, maintaining the highest levels of quality and safety.
  • Undertake travel to manufacturing plants, vendor facilities, and customer sites (up to 30%) to provide on-site support, conduct audits, and foster strong collaborative relationships.

Qualifications

Required Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, materials science, chemistry, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in materials research, formulation, or packaging development.
  • Proficiency in utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for data analysis, reporting, and presentations.
  • Demonstrated project management and analytical skills, with a proven track record of successfully leading complex projects.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of plastics, polymers, formulations, processing techniques, and testing methodologies.
Preferred Skills
  • Master's degree in a relevant field, enhancing expertise in materials science or engineering.
  • Experience with Design of Experiments (DOE) methodologies for optimizing material performance and experimental design.
  • In-depth understanding of regulatory compliance requirements for food packaging materials, ensuring adherence to industry standards.
  • Expertise in rheological and thermal analysis techniques, providing valuable insights into material behavior.
  • Familiarity with metal coatings and their performance characteristics, contributing to the development of advanced packaging solutions.
