POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Biomedical Services holds a pivotal role in leading and overseeing the comprehensive management of safety testing, repair, and maintenance processes for biomedical patient care equipment for SGMC Health. This position entails the strategic guidance and training of biomedical technicians in the nuances of equipment operations, standards, and maintenance protocols. The Director is charged with evaluating and enhancing the safety, efficiency, and overall effectiveness of the biomedical equipment asset management program and plays a critical role in educating other staff members and clinicians on the correct usage of biomedical equipment. A significant responsibility of the Director includes making impactful strategic decisions that influence the broader functional area, along with resolving complex operational issues, often requiring collaboration across various departments. The role demands a strong commitment to upholding, participating in, and shaping both corporate and departmental standards. Additionally, the Director is accountable for driving the growth of the department and executing fiscal plans and budgets. This leadership position requires a strategic vision, strong managerial skills, and deep expertise in the field of biomedical services. This position reports to the Chief Information Officer.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical or medical field required.
  • Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering with a clinical engineering concentration is preferred.
  • Eight (8) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of the education requirement.

CERTIFICATIONS

  • Certified Healthcare Technology Manager (CHTM) Certification is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Five years' experience in medical or technical equipment operations and maintenance management preferred.
  • Five years' experience managing a hospital's biomedical services program preferred.
  • High familiarity with applicable regulatory and inspecting agency requirements.
  • Must have advanced electronic training.
  • Must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to manage one's own work independently in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
  • Must be able to maintain professionalism and react to customers appropriately while exhibiting the highest level of customer service.

WORKING CONDITIONS - ADA INFORMATION

Business setting, indoors with the possibility of irregular hours and/or call back, moderate to heavy stress on a continued basis. Required to work a flexible schedule to accommodate on-call and other responsibilities, including accessing systems from out of campus to analyze/resolve system problems/halts. Required to work nights, weekends, and/or holidays during conversions of software/operating systems, installation of enhancements/hardware, or meeting deadlines on programming needs. Position requires a full range of body motion, including manual and finger dexterity, eye and hand coordination. The position requires corrected vision to an acceptable range. Considerable sitting, standing, stooping, bending, and lifting (above 50 pounds). Extreme mental effort is required, with the ability to assess and make decisions in abbreviated time frames.
