Wild Leaven Bakery is a family-owned and operated business that specializes in long fermentation artisanal sourdough bread and baked goods using organic, local grains and ingredients. We source organic ingredients and support farmers and ranchers located in the Northern New Mexico and Southern Colorado bioregion, given priority to heritage and heirloom grains.

This is an hourly, part-time position. In this position, the team member will be expected to work an average of 16-24 hours/week. The team member will both play the role of baker and cashier and s/he will assist with kitchen-related tasks. We look to hire for personality and train on skills where needed.
Overall Work Schedule
- 6:00am the earliest start time for work
- 5:00pm the latest end time for work
- Available workdays: Tuesday, Thursday & Friday
- Required time committment: 2-3 days/week AND Nov 2025 thru March 2026
- A full 9H shift includes a 15-min paid period and a 45-min unpaid break period
- Daytime hours only (mornings and afternoons)
- Extra hours during holidays and peak periods available

Pay. Our base pay rate is $17 per hour + weekly customer tips (i.e. $17-$20). Customer tips add approx. $1.00 – $3.00 per hour based on hours worked. Collected tips are pooled / distributed amongst all employees based on their weekly hours. In other words, each employee receives the base pay as well as a variable tip amount based on their work hours and the collected tips of that week.

What will I do? Each person on the team is key to the operations of the business. As a part of our team members, you will work with ovens, mixers, slicers, and proofers to bake products that meet the highest quality, freshness, and safety standards. And the icing on the cake is, this is your opportunity to make a difference in our community. In this position, the hard working and friendly team member will provide some assistance to the management team.

All employees are required to conduct themselves in a professional manner such as following the Company's policies and procedures; showing up to work about five (5) minutes before their scheduled shifts. All employees are scheduled to work during the holidays.

Primary qualifications include:
- Be 18 years old or older
- HS diploma or equivalent combination of education and industry experience
- Basic knowledge and interest in bread baking techniques and our family bakery
- Positively welcome customers, take their orders quickly and correctly , help them to have a great experience, and send them off with a smile.
- Must have a positive outlook about life, good attitude even while under pressure at work, a reliable work performance / ethic, easily get along with others and willing to follow directions without dragging one's feet..
- Convey energy, warmth, and a passion for good eating
- Clean and (re)arrange eating, service, and kitchen spaces as needed
- Help kitchen staff with various tasks when needed / requested
- Must be available for all scheduled shifts
- Food handler certification welcome but not required

Physical Requirements
- Must have a reliable mean of transportation, basic computer skills
- Must be able to do basic trade math and retail math (i.e. margin calculations, shrink tracking, etc.)
- Must be able to stand and lift at least 50 pounds occasionally
- Must be able to stand, walk, bend, reach, kneel, squat, reach overhead and side to side during shifts, and must possess hand/finger dexterity
- Must be able to work in extreme cold and hot environments on an occasional basis and around extreme heat from ovens
- 3-month Waiting period applies

- As already stated in this job description, Wild Leaven Bakery offers a non-negotiable base pay rate of $17/hour. In addition to this pay rate, employees receive variable weekly customer tips. All collected tips are pooled/distributed amongst all current employees of Wild Leaven Bakery based on their weekly work hours. Employees' promotions and pay raises are at management's discretion. We offer paid sick leave that must be accumulated by employees based on their individual earned hours.
