As a Packaged Variable Frequency Drives Designer with AWC, you will be responsible for computer aided engineering (CAE) design of custom industrial and electrical systems to meet customer requirements and specifications. You will focus on custom VFD Design, Electrical & Control Panel Design, Standards and Compliance, Documentation & Testing and be an integral part of a Cross-Functional Engineering team.  This is a hybrid-based role and candidates must live within reasonable commuting distance to one of our office locations in Baton Rouge/New Orleans, LA, Houston/Dallas TX, Savannah/Conyers GA, or Jacksonville/Tampa FL.  

How you'll make an impact:

  • Interpretation of customer requirements, project related drawings and specifications
  • Design VFD system for specific vertical industries such as Oil and Gas Upstream, Automotive/EV, Material Handling, Marine, Municipal W/WW, Data Centers, Semiconductor, and Hoist/Crane
  • Component identification, verification and selection for the design
  • Generate VFD panel fabrication and design drawings using Eplan and AutoCAD Electrical
  • Produce VFD panel fabrication instructions and the related bill of materials
  • Preparation of submittal documents, completion of O&M manuals
  • Verification and test of fabricated control panels to ensure adherence to the design
  • Modification of design drawings and related information to match the as-shipped design and as-built drawings
  • Utilize your understanding of applicable industry standards and codes to driver efficiencies, conformity and quality

Skills you'll need:

  • Minimum 5 years of I&E design experience utilizing AutoCAD or Eplan with at least 3 years as a lead designer
  • Understanding of applicable industry standards including the National Electrical Code (NEC), International Society of Automation (ISA), American Petroleum Institute (API) recommended practices, Process Industry Practices (PIP), National Electrical Manufacturer's Association (NEMA) guidelines, and Underwriter's Laboratories (UL) standards
  • Ability to read and create LV Single Line Diagrams, including sizing of electrical equipment, conduit and cable, Motor Control Schematic diagrams
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, technical design standards, Piping and Instrument Diagrams, and other technical drawings
  • Proficient with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, Solid Works, EPLAN, or Siemens NX
  • Positive attitude/strong team player
