Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture and capillary blood sampling using proper techniques to ensure specimen integrity and patient safety
  • Collect blood specimens from patients of all ages with professionalism, compassion, and attention to detail
  • Prepare and label specimens accurately, ensuring proper processing for laboratory analysis
  • Obtain vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration as needed to support patient assessment
  • Maintain aseptic technique throughout all procedures to prevent contamination or infection
  • Verify patient identity and explain procedures clearly to ease anxiety and promote cooperation
  • Document all procedures meticulously in accordance with hospital protocols and medical terminology standards
  • Assist in specimen processing, including centrifugation, storage, and transportation to the laboratory
  • Follow laboratory procedures diligently, adhering to safety guidelines and quality control measures
  • Provide excellent patient service by addressing questions, offering comfort, and ensuring a positive experience during specimen collection
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure timely delivery of specimens and accurate test results
  • Maintain cleanliness of work area and ensure all equipment is properly sterilized and maintained

Experience

  • Proven laboratory experience or clinical laboratory experience with a focus on phlebotomy or specimen collection preferred
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory procedures, techniques, and safety protocols necessary for high-quality sample collection
  • Hands-on experience with venipuncture (blood sampling), capillary punctures, and blood handling techniques required
  • Familiarity with medical terminology related to blood collection and patient care essential for effective communication
  • Previous hospital or healthcare facility experience highly desirable for understanding clinical workflows and patient interaction dynamics
  • Knowledge of physiology, anatomy relevant to venipuncture sites, and aseptic techniques ensures safe practice
  • Ability to work efficiently in fast-paced environments while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy
