We are seeking a highly skilled finance professional to lead critical accounting and compliance functions. This role is responsible for coordinating the preparation and review of the annual IRS Form 990, ensuring adherence to U.S. GAAP, and managing complex accounting processes across investments, fixed assets, leases, and research grants. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with strong leadership skills and a passion for accuracy and efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and lead the preparation and review of the annual IRS Form 990.
  • Delegate to and review work of the Senior Accountant, Finance & Tax and the Senior Associate Director, Chapter Accounting.
  • Serve as the main point-of-contact for Finance to the Association's Medical Science Research Grants team (MedSci).
  • Serve as the lead for the fixed asset process for Finance.
  • Serve as the lead for the lease accounting standard processes for Finance, including process improvement or automation.
  • Provide information for the Association's annual budget including but not limited to investment income, depreciation, research grant expenses, restricted releases, rent amortization and other items as needed.
  • Prepare and/or review workpaper and other schedules required for annual audit as requested. Ensure all accounting work within scope of responsibility is done in accordance with U.S. GAAP, which includes research and implementation of new U.S. GAAP standards.
  • Assist (and potentially lead) and serve as the backup for the tracking of restricted revenue and net assets.
  • Provide ad hoc analysis to CFO, VP, Accounting & Financial Reporting and Senior Director, Finance and Tax
  • Function as backup to the Senior Director, Finance and Tax

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field.
  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) is required.
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in finance, accounting, or a related area. Experience in the non-profit industry preferred.
  • Strong ability to delegate work, with a focus on developing additional capacity and driving performance.
  • Proficiency with automated accounting (and CRM) systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with executive leadership, boards of directors, and external stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, particularly in complex financial scenarios.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines. This may require some evenings or weekend work, especially during month-end closing, annual external audit and annual budget process.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of theory and application of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, internal controls and segregation of duties
  • Specific accounting experience in general ledger including cash, investments, leases, and fixed assets
  • Works independently but also exercises good judgment in identifying and then escalating unusual accounting items to the proper staff member.
  • Determine tasks priority for self and staff.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group on site and off site
  • Basic understanding of tax law

Position Grade & Compensation: Grade 511 The Alzheimer's Association's good faith expectation for the salary range for this role is between $130,000 – $150,000. This position is eligible for a bonus based on both individual and organizational performance, up to 6%.
