Direct, guide, and support project teams to ensure they are meeting company quality control plan requirements and project contract requirements.  Oversee and direct the project assignments and responsibilities of project-based quality managers/inspectors. Collaborate with the Operational Excellence Committee to drive performance excellence and continuous improvement efforts. The Senior Quality Manager must be willing to step in and "do the doing" as needed to support the project teams' quality efforts and ensure successful project results.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • During the pursuit, pre-construction, and execution phases of projects, ensure minimized risk, company compliance and administration of company and industry quality standards and guidelines identified in all aspects of projects, including:
    • Review project documents and quality requirements; lead the project team in the creation of the quality risk assessment matrix and site-specific quality and testing plans.
    • Develop third party testing and inspection plans as required by the contract documents.
    • Administer welder performance qualification testing, and document results in database.
    • Support the development of self-work and test package preparation.
    • Regularly participate in internal monthly project status meetings, visit project sites and provide feedback to site and senior management on opportunities for project performance improvement and compliance.
    • Monitor subcontractor work to ensure compliance with company standards, project contract requirements and industry standards when applicable; support and advise trade contractors to improve their quality programs and project outcomes.
    • Identify non-conforming work and collaborate with the project team and senior project leadership to develop and implement corrective action plans.
    • Ensure quality personnel acquire quality related equipment and materials, as needed.
    • Professionally interact with inspectors and auditors and interface with Owners on matters of quality and Code.
  • Maintain the requirements of AISC, ASME, NBBI's, and other certifications current and in full compliance.
  • Prepare or review reports and quality records in compliance with company quality procedures; process, file and maintain project quality control documentation.
  • Maintain a strong line of communication with the operations managers and project teams on all matters related to quality; asks necessary questions regarding quality inclusion in project planning and execution and pushes back when proper attention to quality is lacking.
  • Analyze key performance metrics and report results or gaps in performance standards to the senior leadership team; formulate policy and/or process improvement recommendations for management's consideration and possible implementation.
  • Partner with the Operational Excellence Committee to ensure the organizational quality policies, procedures, manuals, tools, and resources are maintained and meet the evolving needs of the business.
  • In conjunction with the divisional general managers, operations managers, and recruiting team, determine and meet quality resource/staffing requirements in support of the business/ project requirements; drive the selection and hiring process for quality resources. 
  • Conduct new-hire onboarding and training of quality resources to ensure consistency in the implementation of company quality programs, procedures, and policies on projects.
  • Provide active coaching and mentoring to quality resources to ensure they perform at a high level and build their knowledge, skills, and abilities; proactively address underperformers as needed and offboard those who consistently fail to meet expectations.
  • Conduct periodic quality evaluations and audits of projects and fabrication shop providing feedback on the quality system's effectiveness.
  • Meaningfully contribute to effective Quality strategy and program for the organization and its construction projects.
  • Other duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • An undergraduate degree in engineering, construction management, or related degree or the equivalent job-related experience to be able to perform the functions of the position.
  • Ten (10) plus years of previous experience in quality assurance, inspection, or operations supporting construction projects; previous experience with both self-perform and heavy industrial construction work environment strongly preferred.   
  • QA/QC certifications, inspection certifications and/or related certifications are desirable but not required.
  • Strong software skills including MS Outlook, Teams Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Procore; strong report writing skills required.
  • This position requires confidence, independent action, initiative, a controlled sense of urgency, and the ability to partner and collaborate with senior operations managers, and project teams.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills required; ability to facilitate training sessions or meetings with craft and staff employees.
  • Effective management, coaching, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and interact with client representatives, project managers, superintendents and regulatory officials required.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills and the ability manage multiple, competing priorities.
  • Ability to travel regularly to project sites as needed.
