Seattle, Washington, United States Monod Bio Full time $120,000 - $175,000 per year

About Us

Monod Bio is a pioneer company in the design of de novo protein biosensors. Our innovative biosensor platform technology takes advantage of the most recent advances in computational protein engineering to create highly modular biosensing nano-switches that enable rapid, sensitive, and inexpensive analytical assays. Our visionary founding team and state-of-the-art technology position Monod Bio at the forefront of molecular reporter and biosensor innovation, and we welcome exceptional individuals to join us in this journey.

Monod Bio is looking for a Scientist in computational protein design. The selected candidate will independently spearhead a dedicated team through projects focusing on screening, lead identification and production of computationally designed de novo proteins. This position requires extensive experience in protein biochemistry, protein expression and purification methods in bacterial systems and quality control of the resulting protein reagents. The ideal candidate will be responsible to interface with internal and external stakeholders to understand the deliverables of each project, and independently plan timelines, required human and material resources, execution, and quality assessment of the delivered product.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and engineer novel proteins and enzymes using state-of-the-art computational tools (Diffusion, RosettaFold, AlphaFold etc.). You will have access to the most advanced protein design platforms, along with proprietary experimental technologies and a diverse team of scientific experts, enabling you to work at the forefront of protein engineering.
  • Contribute to the continuous refinement of AI/ML systems: Leverage data-driven insights to improve the accuracy of predictive models, ensuring that every stage of the drug development pipeline benefits from cutting-edge computational approaches.
  • Collaborate across interdisciplinary teams, ensuring a seamless connection between computational insights and experimental design. You will engage with biologists, chemists, and engineers to ensure that our designs lead to viable and effective therapeutics.
  • Design protein libraries and data sets for high-throughput screening and hit identification. Your work will directly contribute to building AI/ML models that are essential for optimizing protein functionality and therapeutic development.

Required Qualifications

  •  PhD in Computer Science, Computational Biology, or a related field: Candidates with industry experience are preferred. We seek an expert in machine learning for protein design, with a proven track record of designing functional enzymes, therapeutics, or other protein-based molecules.
  • Hands-on experience in computational protein design: You have a deep understanding of the tools and techniques used to design and model proteins, and you are eager to apply your knowledge to real-world challenges.
  • Proficiency in deep learning and AI/ML applications: You are familiar with deep learning concepts and have experience developing and optimizing machine learning models, particularly in the context of protein structure prediction, enzyme design, or other related areas.
  • Fluent programming skills in Python, Bash, Go, C++, and other languages: You are comfortable working with these programming languages to build efficient, scalable solutions, and can integrate computational models into larger workflows.
  • A collaborative mindset with interdisciplinary lab teams: You understand the dynamics of laboratory research and can bridge the gap between computational and experimental work. You are adept at working with cross-functional teams to integrate computational innovations into real-world workflows.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills: You thrive in a collaborative environment, bringing diverse perspectives to the table. You are adept at explaining complex computational concepts to a broad audience and can work effectively with colleagues from various disciplines to drive progress.

Physical environment and key requirements:

  • Ability to perform work in both an office and laboratory environment.  Will be in proximity to BSL2 labs.  Familiarity with biological and chemical hazard handling.  Training and equipment will be provided, as necessary.
  • Office mobility and the ability to stand for periods of time as needed are required.
  • Operations happen in moderately loud environments.  PPE included by the company.
  • While not normally anticipated for this computational position, exposure to mild odors from the manufacture of physical specimens and from laboratory work may occur.  The environment has been tested, and proper engineering protections are in place.
We are proud to provide a generous benefits package and a healthy work culture:
  • Competitive annual salary range of $120K to $175K based on skills and experience. Annual discretionary bonus opportunity.
  • 100% company-paid medical, dental, life/AD&D, and vision insurance premiums for employees scheduled to work 25+ hours per week. 50% paid premiums for eligible dependents.
  • 4 weeks PTO per year plus 11 paid holiday closure days and 2 annual floating holidays.
  • Parental leave benefit.
  • State-of-the-art lab and office on bus line and near coffee shops, restaurants, and South Lake Union neighborhood.
  • Casual environment, friendly colleagues, and of course, excellent snacks in the kitchen

Every position requires certain physical capabilities with the major ones for this role noted above. Monod Bio seeks to provide reasonable accommodations that enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential duties when possible. Equal employment opportunity is a fundamental principle at Monod Bio.
