Middle School Afterschool Program Specialist

Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Middle School Afterschool Program Specialist to join our team. This role is vital in providing a safe, engaging, and supportive environment for students during afterschool hours. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with children and possess strong classroom management skills. Prior experience in education, childcare, or youth programs is highly valued. Duties

• Supervise and engage middle school students in various educational and recreational activities
• Implement structured lesson plans and enrichment programs aligned with developmental needs
• Manage classroom behavior using effective behavior management techniques
• Ensure student safety by adhering to all safety protocols, including first aid procedures when necessary
• Foster a positive environment that promotes childhood development, social skills, and teamwork
• Collaborate with teachers, parents, and community partners to support student success
• Assist with homework help, tutoring, and academic support tailored to individual student needs
• Organize extracurricular activities such as sports coaching, theater arts, or arts & crafts projects
• Maintain accurate attendance records and communicate regularly with parents or guardians
• Uphold program policies consistent with childcare standards, special education requirements, and Christian counseling principles if applicable

Qualifications

• Experience working with children in settings such as daycare, camp, tutoring, or babysitting preferred
• Strong knowledge of childhood development, behavior management, and early childhood education principles
• Certification in first aid and CPR is desirable; willingness to obtain certification if not already held
• Background in special education or experience working with students requiring additional support is a plus
• Excellent classroom management skills with the ability to foster a respectful and inclusive environment
• Effective communication skills to collaborate with staff, parents, and community members
• Passion for mentoring youth and supporting their growth academically and socially
• Ability to adapt activities for diverse learning needs and interests within a Christian or secular framework as appropriate

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Must be at least 18 years of age
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Must pass a criminal background check
