Outside Salesperson – Manhattan, KS Catlett Automotive NAPA
Location: Manhattan, Junction City & Abilene, KS Area
About the Role
Join our team as the primary relationship driver for wholesale and commercial accounts in a defined territory. We are seeking a results-oriented Outside Sales Representative to grow our business by selling the full line of NAPA automotive parts, tools, and related products. You will be responsible for calling on repair shops, garages, fleets, body shops, and other automotive businesses to maintain existing relationships and aggressively prospect for new customers. The primary goal is to significantly increase sales, improve customer satisfaction, and deepen NAPA's market penetration.
Key ResponsibilitiesSales Growth & Execution
- Develop and execute a strategic territory sales plan to meet sales, margin, and growth targets in partnership with store management.
- Prospect for new commercial customers through cold calling, field visits, networking, and referrals.
- Manage Existing Accounts by calling on wholesale customers (repair shops, service centers, fleets) to grow relationships and cross-sell products.
- Present, promote, and advise customers on the full line of NAPA products, programs, and solutions.
- Prepare sales proposals, quotations, and follow up to close deals.
- Track, report, and analyze sales metrics (calls, revenue, margin) and generate territory forecasts.
Customer Service & Relationship Building
- Serve as a trusted advisor by visiting customer sites to assess needs, inventory levels, and recommend stocking/replenishment strategies.
- Coordinate with internal operations to efficiently handle customer questions, complaints, or order issues (e.g., backorders, deliveries).
- Maintain a professional image, responsiveness, and integrity as the face of the company in the field.
- Participate in or lead product demonstrations, seminars, or training sessions for customers.
Territory Management & Administration
- Maintain a structured call schedule to ensure comprehensive coverage of all current and prospective accounts.
- Monitor competitor activity (products, pricing, promotions) and provide market feedback to management.
- Coordinate with internal departments (counter sales, delivery, warehouse) to ensure timely order fulfillment and customer satisfaction.
- Accurately enter and update customer records, orders, and sales activity in the company's designated sales management system.
- Attend sales meetings and participate in setting pricing or rebate proposals within company policy.
Qualifications Required
- Proven success in an Outside Sales role, with a strong emphasis on B2B relationship building and new business development.
- Experience in or strong knowledge of the automotive aftermarket, parts, tools, or related commercial/industrial sales environment is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and execute a strategic sales plan to achieve measurable goals.
- Excellent presentation, negotiation, and closing skills.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage a large, defined territory and maintain a rigorous call schedule.
- Must maintain a professional appearance and possess a positive, respectful attitude as a representative of the company.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.

The Outside Salesperson is responsible for promoting the entire NAPA line of products and programs in addition to selling the store's services, to increase sales as well as increase market penetration through new and existing accounts. This local sales position has responsibility for calling on & supporting new and existing customers for the store.
The ideal candidate must have the ability to:
· Effectively understand and communicate NAPA product information
· The ability to handle daily paperwork and forms
· Implement appropriate sales practices
· Maintain customer satisfaction
· Demonstrate professional attitude, conduct, and appearance
· Participate in training
Additionally, as part of the store team, you will:
· Find the correct parts application in either the published NAPA catalogs or the TAMS computer catalog
· Demonstrate understanding of products and their application
· Determine customer's needs
· Describe product features and their benefits to the customer
· Follow prescribed accounting practices and maintain a balanced cash drawer
· Obtain parts not on hand by ordering parts
· Properly receive and store merchandise
Requirements of the job:
· Able to establish and maintain good relations with customers by providing courteous, efficient, and professional service.
· Excellent at prospecting and cold calling skills while maintaining current customers and business needs.
· Have a well groomed, neat appearance, complying with NAPA policies on conduct and dress.
· Demonstrate excellent communication and organizational skills in a professional manner.
· Must be willing to attend weekly sales meetings supporting a team environment, while striving to be the 'top performer' and driving business to the store.
· Possess a valid driver's license
· Must possess a willingness and ability to learn, with great problem-solving skills.
Must be willing to assist in collecting past-due accounts if needed.
· Must be willing to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
· Able to work retail hours.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Capable of operating computer systems and accessing on-line catalogs.
· Visually capable of recognizing and distinguishing letters and numbers and remembering their sequencing.
· Able to speak clearly and listen attentively.
· Capable of lifting and moving parts and boxes of up to 50 pounds.
