General Summary
We are seeking a Network Engineer to help in the design, configuration, support, and maintenance of our enterprise data networks across both corporate and air-gapped operational environments. Ideally this position will be filled by someone with strong interpersonal communication skills and a genuine desire to help others succeed.
ACES' Corporate Data Network consists of 4 sites, 2 data centers, and 4 disaster recovery locations located across the United States. Additionally, we manage a Generation Operations Data Network in 2 data centers, and several power generation sites including coal plants, natural gas plants, and wind farms. All sites run on Arista switches, routers, and wireless access points utilizing Arista's Cloud Vision as a device management platform, as well as Palo Alto firewalls managed via Panorama, and Palo Alto's Prisma SD-WAN suite.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Network Security & Firewall Management
- Administer Palo Alto Firewalls using Panorama for centralized policy control, configuration, and monitoring
- Implement and maintain network security policies, including URL filtering and access controls
- Apply and maintain system security patches and configurations to meet corporate security standards
- Infrastructure Design & Support
- Help design, install, and configure network hardware and peripheral devices
- Manage multi-homed ARIN Autonomous Systems with IPv4 allocations
- Support BGP and OSPF routing protocols
- Configure and troubleshoot Arista wireless, switching, and routing
- Utilize Arista CloudVision for zero-touch provisioning (ZTP), configuration management, logging, and troubleshooting
- Support server applications related to third-party software which might include monitoring, Palo Alto User-ID services, RADIUS, or other network adjacent utilities
- Connectivity & VPN Services
- Maintain VPN infrastructure including LAN-to-LAN tunnels and Dynamic User VPN via GlobalProtect
- Collaborate with ISP support teams to resolve issues with Internet and WAN circuits
- Troubleshooting & Performance Optimization
- Investigate and resolve technical issues and perform root cause analysis
- Monitor, fine-tune, and troubleshoot system and hardware performance
- Ensure rapid response and resolution to business-critical support issues
- Maintain high levels of system availability, stability, and performance
- Planning & Documentation
- Help research, evaluate, and implement network hardware, software, and related projects
- Create and maintain detailed diagrams and documentation of network systems and policies
- Recommend new technologies and services to support corporate and departmental goals
- Business Continuity & Compliance
- Help evaluate, plan, and implement business continuity strategies
- Participate in business continuity exercises and maintain system readiness
- Adhere to ACES corporate policies and comply with regulatory requirements including NERC, FERC, and applicable state regulations
- Customer Service & Collaboration
- Provide excellent customer service and technical support
- Communicate effectively with users, technical staff, vendors, and management
- Deliver 24/7 on-call support on a rotating basis
- Take on additional responsibilities as assigned by management
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Technology or related degree desired, but not required
- Four or more years of data network experience
- Experience with analysis, troubleshooting and resolution of hardware and software problems
- Experience with Cisco or Arista network routing and switching administration
- We are an Arista shop, but most Cisco skills will transfer smoothly
- Experience with Palo Alto Firewalls
- In-depth experience preferred
- Experience with planning network related projects
- Experience with Linux or other GNU operating systems
- Arista devices allow access to Bash to perform many GNU commands
- Customer service orientation

- 10% Travel required
- Ability to hold travel expenses until reimbursement
