Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role for the Director of Operations, located in West Chicago, IL. The Director of Operations will oversee and streamline daily operations to ensure organizational efficiency and high-performance delivery. Key responsibilities include managing and analyzing processes, overseeing team performance, maintaining budgets, ensuring excellence in customer service, and implementing strategies that align with company goals. The role requires developing and maintaining organizational compliance and fostering a collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities

·       Operational Leadership: Oversee daily shop production, logistics, and inventory management.

Manage Production Manager and their teams (Foremen, Leads, Carpenters, Laborers, Shipping/Receiving).

Ensure production schedules align with installation dates and client commitments.

Establish KPIs for throughput, rework %, scrap %, and on-time delivery.

·       Cross-Functional Alignment: Partner with Sales & Account Management on project forecasting and resourcing.

Collaborate with Field Services to ensure crews have the materials, kits, and prefabrication needed for flawless execution.

Support prototype and special project builds with scheduling and technical input.

·       Resource & Capacity Planning: Oversee workforce scheduling and shop capacity planning to balance workloads.

Approve material requisitions and manage vendor relationships.

Forecast staffing and equipment needs to match business growth.

·       Process & Continuous Improvement: Drive efficiency through process optimization, layout improvements, and Lean principles.

Ensure SOP compliance and update procedures regularly.

Lead training and cross-training programs for shop teams.

Support quality improvement and safety initiatives.

·       Safety & Compliance: Own safety culture for shop operations.

Conduct regular safety audits, enforce OSHA standards, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

· years of operations leadership in construction, millwork, fabrication, or logistics.

·       Proven success leading production teams in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.

·       Strong skills in scheduling, capacity planning, and inventory management.

·       Proficiency with Smartsheet, Excel, ERP/CRM tools (or willingness to learn).

·       Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to hold teams accountable.

·       Experience in continuous improvement, Lean, or Six Sigma methodologies preferred.
