Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Low Voltage Technician to join our team and drive the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of low voltage systems across various commercial and residential projects. In this role, you will be instrumental in ensuring the seamless operation of security, fire alarm, surveillance, telecommunication, and other low voltage systems. Your expertise will help safeguard properties, optimize system performance, and deliver exceptional service to clients. Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and troubleshoot low voltage systems including security alarms, CCTV surveillance, sensors, fire alarm systems, access control, and telecommunication networks.
- Read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and system design documents to accurately execute installations and repairs.
- Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance on low voltage infrastructure to ensure optimal performance.
- Utilize hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment to perform cabling, conduit bending, termination, and system testing.
- Perform cable management tasks such as pulling, labeling, testing continuity, and verifying proper connections in compliance with NEC (National Electrical Code) standards.
- Diagnose system issues related to computer networking, remote access software, IDS (Intrusion Detection Systems), sensors, CCTV cameras, security systems, and alarm devices.
- Collaborate with project managers and clients to ensure project specifications are met while adhering to safety standards and building codes.
- Maintain detailed documentation of work performed including schematics updates, service reports, incident logs, and system configurations.
- Assist in sales activities related to alarm system upgrades or new security solutions by providing technical expertise during client consultations.
- Support construction teams during new builds or renovations by integrating low voltage infrastructure seamlessly into the project scope.
- Stay current with industry trends such as advancements in surveillance technology, security protocols, remote access solutions, and NEC compliance requirements.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a service technician or installer specializing in low voltage systems such as security alarms, CCTV surveillance (including IP cameras), sensors (motion detectors), fire alarm systems (NFPA standards), or telecommunication networks.
- Strong low volt knowledge with the ability to read schematics and wiring diagrams accurately.
- Hands-on experience with cabling techniques using hand tools and power tools; familiarity with conduit bending and termination is a plus.
- Knowledge of computer networking concepts including TCP/IP protocols for remote access software integration.
- Mechanical aptitude combined with familiarity with construction environments for seamless system installation within building frameworks.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex issues involving security systems (including IDS), sensors, CCTV cameras (analog/digital/IP), access control devices (locks/door controllers), and fire alarm panels.
- Familiarity with NEC electrical codes relevant to low voltage wiring practices; locksmithing skills are advantageous.
- Excellent communication skills for collaborating with clients and team members effectively.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record; willingness to travel between job sites as needed.
Preferred qualifications include:
- Experience working directly in the field servicing security systems or telecommunication infrastructure.
- Knowledge of system design principles for integrated security solutions.
- Ability to interpret technical schematics accurately under pressure.
- Certification or training related to fire alarm systems or security technology is a plus.
