Summary

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) seeks an energetic Mariachi Music Educator for a high school position responsible for launching a new program. This dedicated teacher will instruct students in traditional Mariachi instruments (violin, trumpet, guitarrón, vihuela, guitar) and vocal styles while actively recruiting students to ensure the ensemble's growth. The role requires developing culturally responsive curricula and fulfilling necessary after-school commitments for rehearsals and performances. Applicants should have proven Mariachi expertise, teaching experience, and the ability to inspire high school students. Bilingual Spanish/English is highly desired.

Qualifications

  • Education/Certification: Relevant teaching certification and/or educational background in music.
  • Expertise: Demonstrated experience and expertise with Mariachi music performance and pedagogy.
  • Teaching Experience: Proven experience teaching traditional Mariachi instruments and vocal styles, preferably at the secondary (high school) level.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to accommodate after-school rehearsals and performance schedules.
  • Cultural Competence: Experience creating curricula that reflects Mariachi traditions and is culturally responsive.
  • Recruitment Skills: Ability to effectively market and recruit students to participate in the music program.
  • Language: Bilingual Spanish/English is highly desired to enhance instruction and connection to the cultural roots of Mariachi.

Major Duties/Essential Functions

Provides and is accountable for the planning, assessment, instruction, communication, human relations, safety, and management of a classroom or assigned instructional setting.
