EVENING TEAM MEMBER (Part-Time, Weekends Only)

Shift: Saturday and Sunday 4 pm - 12 am

As a vital part of our evening operations team, the Evening Team Member helps create a safe, welcoming, and structured environment for all guests staying at Interfaith Sanctuary. This hands-on role includes greeting and checking in guests, assigning beds and lockers, assisting with meals and laundry service, maintaining cleanliness in shared areas, and providing ongoing supervision throughout the night. Team members are also responsible for monitoring guest safety, helping with de-escalation when needed, and ensuring that shelter policies are followed with fairness and respect. Each evening, this team plays an essential role in keeping the shelter running smoothly and upholding our mission to serve individuals and families experiencing homelessness with dignity, kindness, and compassion.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide a welcoming and supportive environment for all guests.
• Actively engage in de-escalating challenging behaviors, ensuring a safe and peaceful atmosphere.
• Collaborate with other team members to devise and implement effective solutions to maintain safety and provide shelter.
• Offer ongoing support and care tailored to the diverse needs of our community.
• Responsible for providing a safe, structured environment that meets the needs of the guests while maintaining professional and acceptable boundaries at all times.
• Enforce and follow all shelter policies.
• Provides consistent coverage for assigned shifts (both 4-9 and 4-late shift), working within the team and independently to complete all shift tasks.
• Maintain a comprehensive and accurate written record of events that occur during shifts (sending shift reports), as well as thorough incident reports.
• Utilize positive behavioral management techniques including verbal redirection.
• Monitor all areas of the shelter to ensure compliance with facility rules, policies, procedures, and protocols.
• Assist with intake, assign beds and lockers, issue linens/personal supplies and other items to guests entering into the shelter.
• Maintain appropriate boundaries with guests at all times.
• Provide all guests, staff, and volunteers with a safe and secure environment. This includes monitoring guest activities as well as regular walkthroughs of the shelter sleeping areas, common areas, and bathrooms.

This role is crucial in maintaining the sanctuary's commitment to inclusivity and safety, making a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve.

• Demonstrates an understanding of a variety of human behaviors and is able to defuse hostile situations.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining order and remaining calm under pressure.
• Has experience working with individuals who struggle with addiction and mental health issues.
• Must consistently communicate and uphold shelter policies and procedures.
• Ability to operate telephones and basic electronic and office equipment.

Composure: Ability to possess maturity, sense of confidence and emotional stability and maintain self-control in the midst of difficult circumstances and emergencies. Ability to represent the agency well and respond professionally in all situations. Ability to set and enforce behavioral limits.

Compensation: $16 per hour. 1 Health Reimbursement Arrangement Card worth $500 annually.
