For 50 years, the Groden Center School provides education and clinical services for children ages 5-21 with autism. We are looking for a Head of School with strong leadership skills and knowledge, who excels in leadership, collaboration, and teamwork, to lead our dedicated teams, to elevate learning, and to create an excellent environment where every student can thrive and reach their fullest potential."
Key Responsibilities
Program Development
- Design and oversee curriculum design, implementation and instructional methods tailored to students with autism, to reach excellence in education and service provision.
- Support the implementation of evidence-based practices such as ABA, TEACCH, PBIS, Assistive Technology (AT, AAC), and other individualized approaches.
- Monitor student progress and program effectiveness through data-driven decision-making.
- Ensure high-quality development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
Staff Supervision & Development
- Recruit, supervise, and evaluate teachers, therapists, and support staff.
- Provide coaching, professional development, and mentorship to promote staff growth.

Family & Community Engagement
- Partner with families, guardians, and school districts to support student success.
- Ensure clear and responsive communication regarding student progress and program goals.
- Build strong relationships with community organizations, advocacy groups, and service agencies.
Quality Assurance & Safety
- Maintain accreditation standards and participate in regulatory reviews.
- Implement trauma-informed, positive behavioral supports to promote safe learning environments.
- Uphold a culture of accountability, respect, and inclusion.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Special Education and current PEL (professional educator's license) required.
- A Rhode Island Building Level Administrator certificate (as required by the state).
- Minimum 5 years of experience in special education, with at least 3 years in a leadership/administrative role.
- Demonstrated expertise in autism spectrum disorders, instructional strategies, and behavioral supports.
- Strong knowledge of IDEA, ADA, and state/federal education regulations, and RIDE policies, and expectations.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills, and collaboration.
- Strong computer skills, including using of Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Teams, and ability to learn and adapt to computer programs and software.
- Strong ability to create and give presentations, train, and guide staff, individually, and in groups.
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctorate (EdD or PhD) in Education, Special Education, or Leadership.
- Training in ABA, PBIS, trauma-informed practices, or other specialized instructional approaches.
- Experience with accreditation processes (e.g., COA, CARF, Cognia).
- Bilingual or multilingual abilities.
