Bluecadet is an Emmy-winning, experience design agency partnering with mission-driven institutions to create transformative environments, digital experiences, and storytelling platforms. We blend spatial design, technology, and narrative to bring ambitious ideas to life for museums, cultural institutions, nonprofits, and forward-thinking brands. Our partners include MoMA, NASA, The Smithsonian, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
We are looking for a Freelance Unity Developer to collaborate with our interdisciplinary team on immersive, installation-based experiences. This role is ideal for a creative technologist who excels at bringing interactive environments to life through real-time 3D development, computer vision, and spatial computing.
You'll work alongside designers, producers, and technologists to prototype and build robust interactive systems—combining Unity development with media integration, pose tracking, and user interaction. This position is perfect for someone passionate about experiential design, who thrives in collaborative, cross-disciplinary environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and optimize interactive experiences in Unity for physical installations and museum environments
- Integrate computer vision systems, including AI-based hand, skeleton, or pose tracking methods
- Implement and animate 3D characters, including rigging and mapping to real-time input
- Collaborate with design, content, and AV teams to ensure seamless integration of digital and physical components
- Build prototypes to test interaction models and user flow
- Participate in technical planning, documentation, and troubleshooting across all phases
- Contribute to on-site setup, testing, and refinement as needed
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of professional experience in Unity development, ideally with physical or installation-based projects
- Strong proficiency in C# and Unity's 3D engine workflows
- Experience working with computer vision frameworks (OpenCV, MediaPipe, or similar)
- Understanding of real-time 3D character animation, rigging, and user-driven motion mapping
- Comfortable working closely with designers, AV vendors, and fabricators
- Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills
- Strong communication and documentation abilities
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with pose estimation and motion capture pipelines
- Experience developing interactive media for museums or public spaces
- Knowledge of hardware and sensors (depth cameras, projection, motion tracking)
- Understanding of performance optimization for real-time graphics
