Supervises professional geotechnical engineering staff and serves as the lead technical expert responsible for providing geotechnical evaluations and recommendations throughout the design, construction, and maintenance phases of civil engineering projects.

Minimum Qualifications Education & Experience (Options)Option 1

Education: Masters degree in engineering or Bachelors degree in engineering plus an MBA.

Experience: One year of civil engineering experience after obtaining Professional Engineer licensure.
Option 2

Education: Bachelors degree in engineering.

Experience: Three years of civil engineering experience after Professional Engineer licensure.
Option 3

Education: Associates degree in engineering or engineering technology.

Experience: Five years of civil engineering experience after Professional Engineer licensure.

Must be a Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in civil-related fields (Civil, Civil Highway, Geotechnical, or Structural).

Candidates licensed in another state must obtain licensure within one year.

Must have a valid drivers license or reliable transportation for statewide travel.

Motor Vehicle Record must meet agency standards.

At least 12 semester hours of geotechnical engineering and/or geological coursework at the undergraduate or graduate level.

All duties must be performed according to state and department rules, safety standards, environmental regulations, and risk-management guidelines.

Provides geotechnical engineering guidance and technical review to civil engineering staff.

Serves as the geotechnical project engineer on complex civil engineering projects.

Conducts geotechnical designs, analyses, and evaluations using advanced engineering methods and current design codes.

Prepares detailed reports, correspondence, and recommendations for internal teams and external engineering consultants.

Participates in project meetings and coordinates with designers to ensure proper implementation of geotechnical elements.

Prepares contract specifications for geotechnical work.

Develops and recommends technical operating procedures for the geotechnical program.

Reviews engineering documents from staff and consultants to ensure technical accuracy and cost-effective solutions.

Collaborates with construction personnel, contractors, and engineering partners to resolve geotechnical issues during construction.

Serves on technical committees and evaluates foundations, retaining structures, and related geotechnical systems for project suitability.

Performs supervisory and administrative duties, including reviewing timesheets, approving leave, evaluating performance, recommending disciplinary actions, interviewing, and providing training.
