Biomedical Equipment Technician

The Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) Instructor is responsible for instructing students enrolled in the biomedical technology programs on topics related to medical device operation, maintenance, repair and other topics related to the profession. This position includes instructing students in a classroom environment as well as supervising students in a laboratory environment. The position may also include instructing students in a virtual, online environment.
- Deliver comprehensive instruction on subjects such as medical equipment technology, device installation and operation, engineering principles, and the troubleshooting and repair of biomedical equipment.
- Teach students how to conduct scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) on a diverse range of biomedical equipment.
- Guide students in performing operational, safety, and performance tests on clinical equipment.
- Assist in the development and refinement of curriculum content, ensuring relevance to current industry standards.
- Update and maintain course materials, laboratory procedures, and demonstrations to support a continuing education program focused on the safe and effective use of medical equipment.
- Develop lesson plans and assessments appropriate to the learning objectives of the instructed courses.
- Employ effective teaching strategies that promote student engagement and motivation.
- Participate in meetings to discuss and evaluate curricular issues, and to ensure effective and collaborative decisions across departments.
- Participate in the development, recommendation, and systematic review of academic policies/procedures, at the program and institutional level
- Perform lab assisting and inspection of students' lab work.
- Proctor exams and maintain/report grades for the classes taught.
- Minimum of an Associate Degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology or electronics or related fields. Bachelors or higher degree preferred.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in maintenance and repair work on a wide range of hospital equipment.
- CBET certification highly preferred.
- Past experience as an instructor or trainer preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
- Excellent presentation and public speaking skills are required.
Courses are scheduled for 5-week terms in the evenings, Mondays-Thursdays, beginning at 6pm on campus. Faculty who instruct regularly every five weeks are preferred; however, candidates who are able to instruct periodically with breaks in between are welcome to apply.
