The SFUSD Bond Program manages capital expenditures associated with SFUSD's voter authorized bond measures. SFUSD has been implementing capital projects funded by voter-approved bonds since 2003. San Francisco voters most recently approved a $790 million Bond in 2024. Bond projects are managed by a team of ten project managers, under direction of the Bond Leadership Team, which is part of SFUSD's Facilities Department. The 5502 Project Manager I is a junior project manager in the program, and a member of the project management team delivering routine projects within this program.
As a 5502 Project Manager I, you manage a broad range of school construction projects that require journey-level experience and aptitude for multi-disciplinary project planning and scoping and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams composed of diverse individuals. You will deliver straightforward projects on your own, and assist on larger, more complex projects as part of SFUSD's project delivery team. You will also manage school construction projects that will require experience and aptitude for multi-disciplinary project planning and scoping, environmental review, and design development, construction, and closeout. You will embody the mission and values of SFUSD in your project delivery style and work ethic.
Essential Duties
The duties specified below are representative of the range of duties assigned to the job code/class and are not intended to be an inclusive or exhaustive list.
As the 5502 Project Manager I, you will:
- Manage interdisciplinary project design teams to implement PreK-12 school capital projects within a budget range of $1 to $20 million, with general supervision and support through complete capital project delivery life cycle, including design, bid, construction, and closeout;
- Represent the District, as required, including, field coordination, meeting attendance, team collaboration, contract administration support, and coordination with Contractor teams; and
- Have working knowledge in technical aspects of architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and geotechnical engineering design and specifications, either by education or prior experience;
- Assemble informal and formal bid packages development, advertising, award, and management;
- Apply your experience in public project contracting, including typical public works contracting and design-bid-build & lease-leaseback project delivery;
- Schedule and budget routine capital projects; develop and enforce work statements; monitor, review and revise job orders, schedules and budgets;
- Manage routine environmental and other permitting, routine interactions with other government agencies and City departments;
- Use software programs including GSuite, Smartsheet, and Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), and industry-specific software including Bluebeam Revu and Procore project management software;
- Act with integrity and candor with stakeholders, and commit to excellence in project approach and implementation;
- Consult with subject matter experts as needed to support your working knowledge of various funding sources and restrictions; legal requirements for DSA projects; regulations and regulatory agencies and commissions affecting planning, CEQA, design and construction; and construction management techniques and practices;
- Interface with school site administrators to provide candid and constructive updates on projects
- Communicate effectively, in writing, verbally, and appreciate to the situational context to individuals, small groups and a variety of audiences (e.g., staff meetings, executive briefings, public board meetings, memos); and
- Understand the limits of their own experience and/or personality, including appropriately escalating urgent and/or politically sensitive items when needed.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in architecture, engineering or planning plus four (4) years of responsible architectural, engineering or construction management experience, OR
A Bachelor's Degree in another field plus six (6) years of responsible experience in a field directly related to the project, OR
Eight (8) years of architectural, engineering, or construction management experience in a field directly related to the project, OR
California registration as professional engineer or architect.
Substitution: Education requirement may be substituted for additional professional-level experience on a year-for-year basis.
