GPU COMPUTING LAB SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR
THE ROLE:
Our team ensures AMD-based systems and Instinct GPUs are operating at their best before they are deployed to solve the world's most challenging problems. The system administrator is an integral part of the Data Center GPU Performance Team and will be responsible for local lab systems as well as interacting with teams that manage remote, shared systems, including clusters. The ideal candidate is well organized, shows great attention to detail and employs critical thinking.
THE PERSON:
We are looking for a talented and motivated individual to join our dynamic lab management team as a System Administrator. In this role, you will ensure the stability, scalability, and performance of our Instinct GPU based lab servers and infrastructure while driving automation practices.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- System and Cluster Administration:
- Manage and maintain servers, networks, infrastructure, and compute server clusters, ensuring optimal performance and high availability.
- Monitor system health and performance, resolving bottlenecks and issues as needed.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to hardware, OS/drivers, network, and cluster configurations.
- Deploy, configure, and maintain software, including operating systems, and resource managers.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation of system and cluster configurations, processes, procedures and policies.
- Datacenter Operations:
- Collaborate with lab team on data center operations, including space, power, cooling, and network infrastructure.
- Collaborate with lab team on server and storage hardware, including bring-up, configuration, and troubleshooting.
- Monitor and optimize environmental conditions to maintain optimal performance and uptime.
- Collaborate with lab team on maintenance, upgrades, and repairs.
- Collaboration & Support:
- Work closely with performance team to ensure the compute server cluster meets their demands.
- Provide support and training to the performance team, assisting with job scheduling, resource allocation, and software usage.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies to keep the infrastructure modern and efficient.
- Identify opportunities for automation, optimization, and efficiency improvements within the data center and cluster environments.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- 3+ years of experience in Linux system administration, managing datacenter compute clusters or large-scale computing environments.
- Proficiency in Linux/Unix server environments and networking protocols like InfiniBand and Ethernet.
- Strong experience with scripting and automation (e.g., Bash, Python, PowerShell).
- Experience with automated/templated setup of Ubuntu, Debian, RHEL or SUSE via PXE boot
- Familiarity with configuration management tools, such as Ansible including Jinja2
- Networking experience and proficiency configuring managed switches (e.g., Cisco, Arista, Juniper) for layer 2 and layer 3 networks
- Experience with containerization and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Experience with AMD or Nvidia datacenter compute GPU's a plus
- Experience with cluster management software, such as Slurm, a plus.
- Experience with hypervisor, such as KVM, Xen, VMware, Hyper-V, a plus
- Experience with version control systems, such as Git, a plus.
- Experience with monitoring, management and logging tools (e.g., Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana), a plus.
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
