Response & Engagement Team Supervisor, Bureau of Community Awareness, Action, Response & Engagement

Open to candidates who are permanent in the civil service title of Special Consultant (MHSS) or the comparable civil service title of Senior Consultant (Public Health Social Work)

The Bureau of Community Awareness, Action, Response, and Engagement (BCAARE)'s Community Response and Engagement Unit (CREU) is comprised of Behavioral Health Office of Emergency Preparedness and Response(BH-OEPR), Response and Engagement Team(RET), and Triage. CREU clinicians and peers deliver prevention and intervention services to promote mental health, support individual and community adjustment from chronic and acute trauma, support community resilience, and promote community connection. CREU teams assess, assign, and answer requests for behavioral health response, engage communities to provide behavioral health public education and connection to services, and prepare public health staff, first responder personnel, and the general public for response to and recovery from events impacting New York City and local communities.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Response and Engagement Supervisor is responsible for leading and coordinating a multidisciplinary team that responds to urgent community needs, including crisis related to public health, behavioral health, and housing instability.

Duties Will Include But Not Be Limited To

• Directly supervise social work staff.
• Provide clinical oversight, field-based supervision and ongoing coaching to the teams conducting outreach in the community.
• Troubleshoot any challenges, issues or concerns that might arise and escalate issues to management as necessary.
• Follow up and maintain working relationships with NYPD, DHS, SSPs, and local CBOs to ensure outreach teams can connect community members to services.
• Participate in regular meetings an provide ongoing training and support to the teams in the field.
• As part of an interdisciplinary team, participate in program planning and policy formulation.
• Ensure teams complete data entry attend of every shift and data is accurately entered.
• Communicate with Leadership regularly as needed.
• Prepares routine and ad-hoc reports as requested by Bureau Administration.
• Regularly attend community events, public forums, stakeholder meetings and or/ hold focus groups and/or develop surveys to obtain

community input for local services planning in collaboration with Offices in Bureau.

• Review and utilize survey findings to improve performance to better meet the needs of the community.

Preferred Skills

• 5 years direct service experience working with highly vulnerable populations, particularly the homeless, and people with health, mental health, substance abuse issues as well as families.
• At least 2 years if direct Supervisory experience in the behavioral health field.
• Incorporate best practices for engagement, de-escalation and peer intervention services.
• Strong understanding of the intersection of NYC's criminal justice and behavioral health systems.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience with best practices around violence risk identification and management, engagement of hard-to-reach clients, harm reduction, motivational interviewing, trauma-informed care and non-violent crisis intervention techniques.
• Experience supervising peers and familiarity with peer models.
• Significant provider experience in behavioral health treatment and/or services.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships internally and externally.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Proficient in computers, including Microsoft suite.
• Creative problem-solver who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, is highly motivated.

Minimum Qualifications
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, and either:

• A Master's degree in Social Work from an accredited college or university in the school of social work, or 60 graduate semester credits from an accredited university in social work, psychology, health, rehabilitation, public health, psychiatric nursing or special education; plus one year of full-time, satisfactory experience providing direct care in a social, psychiatric, health, mental retardation/developmental disabilities or substance abuse/chemical dependency/alcoholism agency or in the administration of a

program providing direct care as described above, or as a consultant on program planning or evaluation for such services; or

• A Master's degree of at least 30 graduate semester credits from an accredited university in psychology, sociology, anthropology, public health, special education,

psychiatric nursing, counseling, human services, health, rehabilitation, public administration, or business administration; plus two years of experience as described in "1" above; or

• A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience. Candidates without either a Master's degree as described in "1" or "2" above or at least 60 graduate semester credits in the areas listed in "1" above, must have at least:
• a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and one year of actual experience as described in "1" above; plus
• a satisfactory combination of: (i) graduate semester credits in the areas listed in "1" and "2" above; and/or (ii) additional experience as described in "1" above, to equal 60 graduate semester credits or 2 years of experience. Graduate semester credits from an accredited university may be substituted for the experience in qualification "3 b)" only, on the basis of 30 graduate semester credits for each year of experience. Experience may be substituted for graduate semester credits in qualification "3 b)" only, on the basis of one year of experience for each 30 graduate semester credits.

NOTE: For assignment to Assignment Level II, in addition to meeting the above qualification requirements, all candidates must have one additional year of experience as described in "1" above.
