Position Summary

The Drainage Construction Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all field operations related to drainage and stormwater construction projects. This role provides senior-level leadership across multiple crews and job sites, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and in compliance with contract documents, specifications, and company standards. The Superintendent works closely with project management, inspectors, and client representatives to drive performance, quality, and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage multiple drainage construction crews and job sites.
  • Supervise stormwater and drainage work including:
  • Storm sewer systems
  • Inlets, manholes, and junction boxes
  • Culverts, headwalls, and outfall structures
  • Excavation, dewatering, backfill, and compaction
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate daily and long-term field operations.
  • Review and interpret plans, specifications, and permits.
  • Ensure compliance with FDOT standards, municipal requirements, and contract documents.
  • Lead and enforce all safety policies, OSHA requirements, and site-specific safety plans.
  • Conduct site walks, safety audits, and quality control inspections.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, inspectors, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Monitor manpower, equipment, and material usage to meet productivity and schedule goals.
  • Resolve field conflicts, constructability issues, and unforeseen site conditions.
  • Review daily reports, production tracking, and field documentation.
  • Support budgeting, cost control, and change order identification.
  • Mentor and develop foremen and field supervisors.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and accountability across all crews.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum 7–10 years of experience in drainage or civil construction.
  • 3+ years in a Superintendent or senior supervisory role preferred.
  • Strong experience with FDOT and/or municipal drainage projects.
  • Advanced knowledge of drainage systems, grading, and stormwater infrastructure.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex construction plans and specifications.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proficient in coordinating multiple crews and job sites.
  • Valid driver's license required.

Preferred Certifications (A Plus)

  • OSHA 30
  • FDOT experience and certifications
  • Trench Safety / Competent Person
  • Confined Space Certification
  • MOT (Maintenance of Traffic) certification

Work Environment

  • Field-based leadership role overseeing active construction sites.
  • Frequent exposure to heavy equipment, excavation operations, and changing site conditions.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and environments.
