Senior Membership Engagement Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Senior Membership Engagement Specialist supports NACCHO's mission by managing membership and meeting operations that drive most of the organization's unrestricted revenue. The role focuses on member engagement, retention, and marketing, developing benefits and programs to strengthen relationships with members and partners. Key duties include coordinating engagement activities with SACCHOs, the Past Presidents Council, and the Membership Committee; organizing events such as conferences, Leadership Week, and awards programs; and overseeing advisory workgroup recruitment. The specialist also supervises 1–2 staff, conducts research and project management with minimal supervision, and collaborates frequently with internal and external stakeholders to enhance member services and organizational effectiveness.

POSITION SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Creates and manages an annual timeline and process for all public health engagement activities related to NACCHO's strategic membership initiatives.
- Implements a standard, streamlined process to execute the annual public health engagement workplan.
- Works in collaboration with the membership and meetings teams to execute marketing strategies and engagement activities for NACCHO's annual conferences, events, and educational activities.
- Collaborates across the membership and meetings team to plan, develop, and execute engagement and marketing strategies for NACCHO's annual conferences, events, and educational activities.
- Initiates and develops annual workplans and supporting activities of the Council of SACCHOs, Past Presidents Council, and Membership Committee, Workgroup Leads, Student Section, and Alumni Network.
- Develops, monitors, and maintains annual MOU agreements with the Council of SACCHOs.
- Leads the membership team's efforts to strengthen local health department membership in each state through coordinated efforts with the Council of SACCHOs.
- Works directly with the Council of SACCHOs to plan and execute the semi-annual in-person meetings during Leadership Week and NACCHO360 in coordination with the Council of SACCHOs.
- Works directly with the Past Presidents Council to develop and execute a new alumni membership program.
- Works directly with the Membership Committee to develop a new non-profit affiliate partner program.
- Oversees the creation and collection of board committee reports from the Council of SACCHOs, Past Presidents Council, and Membership Committees. Assembles the membership staff board reports.
- Develops monthly and quarterly drip campaigns to communicate the value of membership using HigherLogic (Career Center, New Members, Students, and the awards and recruitment processes).
- Works directly with NACCHO's top affiliate business partners to develop and communicate exclusive member benefits that support the work of local health departments.
- Provides operational support to the membership team regarding MOU agreements and revenue share programs between NACCHO and its top affiliate business partners.
- Maintains the integrity and accuracy of the membership areas within the NACCHO website that are related to member engagement (Become A Member, Annual Awards, SACCHO, Student Section); creates new categories within this section of the website for the Past Presidents Council and Alumni Network.
- Develop written and digital materials that support and enhance member engagement including, such as biannual membership surveys, emails, newsletters, press releases, fact sheets, blogs, case studies, etc.
- Implements and develop the Student Section program and Alumni Network in coordination with volunteer
- leadership through digital engagement, such as monthly newsletters and quarterly webinars.
- Identifies opportunities for new engagement activities, such as Membership Mondays, virtual cafes, etc.
- Works directly with NACCHO programs and operations staff, health department members, committees, and others to establish and maintain positive relationships and achieve NACCHO objectives.
- Tracks recruitment, retention, and engagement activities using Smartsheet, MS Excel, and CRM database.
- Represents NACCHO at key public health conferences to expand awareness and recruit public health professionals (health departments, students, and others) as new NACCHO members.
- Demonstrates high-quality service with internal and external stakeholders, especially NACCHO members.
- Assists with various NACCHO programmatic projects as needed, and other NACCHO membership and meetings duties as directed by the Manager, Membership.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:
Bachelor's degree and certification in relevant professional field with a minimum of 5-7 years relevant work experience;
or
equivalent combination of education and experience, including a relevant certification.
Master's degree in a relevant field is preferred. Previous experience with Association Management Software (AMS), Microsoft Office, SharePoint, and project management tools (i.e., Smartsheet). Experience with non-profits, membership associations, or health communications are desirable. Previous project management experience, program management designation preferred.
Knowledge
- Skilled in providing exceptional partner and member experience through written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills,
- Demonstrated interest and background knowledge in public health issues.
- Knowledge of communications/marketing principles preferred.
Abilities
- Proven ability to maintain positive communication and relationships with local, state, and federal partners, staff, and all levels of management.
- Excellent ability to balance multiple priorities, and to effectively communicate the status of projects.

- Ability to consistently meet project deliverables and deadlines.
- Excellent attention to detail, particularly with database entry and spreadsheets.
- Spreadsheet and Word Processing software experience required.

- Strong computer skills with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Smartsheet, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
