Distinguishing Characteristics of Work
This position is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the newly developing Family Court Services Unit, ensuring the delivery of quality services to families involved in high-conflict divorce, custody and domestic violence cases. This position will manage a diverse team, coordinating with various court divisions and ensuring compliance with court orders. The Family Court Services Manager will collaborate with community agencies, court staff and judicial officers to optimize services and develop innovative solutions to meet the needs of families. The Manager will initially be responsible for performing some of the same duties as their staff, while growing the new program.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develops and maintains an inventory of local service programs for parenting, mental health, substance abuse and/or other types of services, as ordered by the court.
- Initially, Manager will be responsible for establishing and supervising positions for a Judicial Navigator, Judicial Support Investigator and Administrative Assistant, with a future goal of eventually supervising another dozen or more staff.
- Attends hearings as needed.
- Informs the court of identified problems, trends and needed services in the community.
- Reviews and edits reports submitted by Judicial Support Investigator.
- Updates and maintains manual and automated case management information and statistical data.
- Ensures reports from service providers are received by the court timely.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for court personnel, including judges, magistrates and attorneys, ensuring the smooth flow of court-ordered services.
- Performs related duties as directed.
Education and Training Guidelines
A Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, or related field, supplemented by at least 3 years of experience providing professional therapeutic services and linking people with a variety of resources is essential. A Master's degree may substitute for one year of the recommended experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of trauma-informed jurisprudence;
- Knowledge of community resources and the ability to make appropriate referrals;
- Knowledge of courtroom protocol for domestic relations court proceedings;
- Ability to interact effectively with professional and support staff;
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively and make presentations to judges and community groups;
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion regarding cases;
- Ability to use a personal computer and software applications;
- Ability to analyze data and case information;
- Ability to identify problems and make recommendations for improvements;
- Ability to establish work priorities and meet deadlines;
- Timeliness and attendance are essential functions of the job.
