builds intelligent systems to help companies manufacture advanced materials and unlock new technologies and products. We combine materials science, AI, and high-performance computing to ensure that new materials can be created at scale and actually have an impact on the world.
We're looking for a
Product Engineer
to develop new features on our software platform that help scientists and engineers connect, analyze, and act on their materials data. You'll work across the stack to design and build features that turn complex data into effective interfaces and intuitive user experiences.
Responsibilities
In general, you'll own and build user-facing features end-to-end. This starts with understanding user problems and designing scalable solutions, followed by building the right data models, application logic, endpoints, and interfaces to deliver a great UX.
More specifically, this involves:
- Feature design. C
ollaborate with our materials science team to design effective solutions to user problems spanning data management, visualization, automations, and integrations. - Backend development.
Work in Python to develop flexible data models with SQLAlchemy, reusable application logic, and performant endpoints with FastAPI. - Frontend development.
Work in Typescript to manage backend and other async state with Tanstack Query, develop intuitive interfaces with React on top of our design library, and manage web routing and layouts with Tanstack Router. - Product roadmapping.
Understand our competitive landscape and product strategy to collaboratively identify opportunities, distill objectives, and shape tasks.
Experience with our tech stack is a plus but not required. We prioritize general engineering ability and learning rate.
Examples of projects at Atomscale include:
- Designing a drag-and-drop canvas to manage workflows which flexibly define and execute data pipelines with version management and run observability.
- Creating intuitive interfaces to dynamically construct charts from multiple sources of complex data like timeseries, correlations, and embeddings.
- Building modular end-user apps that push and pull data from our central platform to ingest data from external synthesis tools and issue commands.
Who We're Looking For
More general characteristics in a candidate we'd love to see:
- Strong product sense to understand the problem space and independently design the right features to solve problems.
- Worked on projects with significant product and technical ambiguity and steered them to success.
- Strong judgment about when to move fast and when to slow down based on practical experience doing each and seeing the longer-term outcomes.
- Detail-oriented and bothered by poor interface ergonomics, misaligned layouts, or awkward animations.
- Appreciate the quality in software like Linear, Notion, and Arc, and want to raise the standards of scientific software.
- Understands our mission, why it's important, and is excited about the domain.
Why Join Atomscale?
- We're a small, talent-dense team of researchers, staff scientists, and founding engineers with experience and networks at world-class institutions.
- We value autonomy, transparency, and getting things done. As an early member of the team, you'll have the space to do your best work, experience rapid growth, and decisively influence our trajectory.
- The work really matters
. You will help reshape how materials are translated into new technologies that address the most pressing challenges of our time. Your work will pull forward the future.
This position requires ongoing work authorization in the United States without employer sponsorship.
