Job Description
The Tax Specialist in the Research & Development Tax Credit group researches tax issues, conducts fieldwork, and supports sales and marketing efforts. The R&D group consists of regional teams directed by a national leader. A Staff Associate's primary role will be to work under the direction of a Tax Senior Associate or Manager on projects from beginning to end. They will be tasked with developing and maintaining client relationships as well as delivering a quality work product.

Responsibilities
Conduct fieldwork - Staff will conduct fieldwork specific to the consulting projects. Fieldwork could include visiting the client location, touring client facilities, investigating relevant facts, analyzing accounting information, preparing cost lead schedules and cost summary schedules, completing appropriate tax computations, and preparing written reports summarizing the findings.

  • Staff are expected to engage in fieldwork pertinent to consulting projects. This can include visiting client locations, touring facilities, investigating facts, analyzing accounting data, preparing schedules, and writing summary reports.
  • Staff may also play a role in business procurement, with senior staff available to address technical queries and produce relevant marketing content.
  • Some travel may be needed, although most fieldwork can usually be completed from the office.
  • Staff are expected to become "experts" in a particular field of tax law through both general and client-specific research.
  • Staff will read and study materials related to their specific line of business to become experts in the field.
  • Staff must manage multiple tasks concurrently. They are also responsible for internal communications regarding task statuses, technical issues, workload status, and expected deadlines.
  • Other assignments as required.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office Suites
  • Proficient in time management, multitasking, and meeting deadlines.

Education And Experience

  • Bachelor's degree / 3.0 GPA minimum.
  • Ability to work additional hours as needed and travel to various client sites.
  • An advanced degree would be a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.
