Position Summary
The Assistant Project Manager is an entry level position that serves as both a financial and operational leader for drilled shaft construction projects. This role is responsible for assisting in overseeing project estimation, planning, and execution—from bid through closeout. Key responsibilities include managing budgets and schedules, coordinating with field supervision, fostering strong client relationships, and ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with contractual and quality expectations.
This position reports to the Division VP.

Project Management
- Champion a best-in-class experience for employees, clients, and the community through a shared commitment to advancing the nation's infrastructure.
- Partner with the Superintendent to ensure safety, quality, and efficiency meet Tri-State's standards and client expectations.
- Assist and Oversee all phases of drilled shaft construction projects, including planning, budgeting, execution, quality assurance, and close-out.
- Estimate, develop, manage, and buy out project budgets, collaborating with the project team to maximize profitability without compromising safety or quality.
- Monitor project schedules, ensuring timely completion of key milestones and deliverables.
- Coordinate with field supervision, clients, engineers, vendors, and subcontractors to ensure full compliance with project specifications and requirements.
- Monitor overall project performance, including safety, quality, productivity, and financial outcomes.
- Collaborate with your team to proactively identify and resolve project challenges, minimizing disruptions and delays.
- Manage and track all submittals, RFIs, and turnover documentation.
- Conduct regular site visits to foster strong team relationships, maintain client communication, monitor progress, and address on-site issues.
Estimating
- Analyze project plans, specifications, and geotechnical reports to prepare accurate cost estimates for drilled shaft projects.
- Perform material takeoffs, labor analysis, and equipment pricing to develop competitive and precise bids.
- Collaborate with clients, Superintendents, the equipment department, and project peers to ensure estimate completeness and accuracy.
- Solicit and evaluate quotes from vendors and subcontractors to ensure cost-effective and reliable project execution.
- Prepare and submit detailed proposals, bids, and budgets within established timelines.
- Maintain and update cost databases to reflect current market conditions and ensure accurate future estimates.
Budget Management
- Fully understand your project costs by developing and reviewing the project budget in partnership with your Superintendent and project manager. Continuously monitor costs and collaborate with the Superintendent and project manager to ensure the project stays on track to meet or exceed budget expectations.
- Perform weekly and monthly cost analyses, providing detailed project health reports to the company on a regular basis.
- Assist in managing subcontractors and vendors to ensure compliance with their agreements and budget, including reviewing, managing, and approving invoices.
- Coordinate with your Superintendent and project manager to develop strategies that maximize profitability and address potential budget issues throughout the project lifecycle.
- Identify, communicate, and manage change orders with the client, ensuring Tri-State is properly compensated for scope of work adjustments.
Client Relations
Collaborate with the Superintendent and project manager to develop solutions-focused strategies that align with Tri-State's best interests while fostering long-term client relationships.
Serve as a point of contact for clients, cultivating strong relationships and ensuring overall client satisfaction.
Participate in preconstruction meetings and provide regular progress updates to clients, keeping them informed throughout the project lifecycle.
Work closely with your project team to address client concerns promptly and provide effective solutions to any project-related issues.
Safety and Compliance
- Foster a safety-first culture on every project site, ensuring that protecting our people is always the top priority.
- Uphold the Gold Standard of quality that Tri-State Drilling is known for by ensuring top-tier workmanship at every stage.
- Collaborate with the Superintendent and project manager to ensure the latest drawings are used, quality requirements are met, and all necessary documentation is completed to demonstrate quality installation.
- Monitor adherence to company safety policies and OSHA regulations throughout all project activities.
- Actively manage safety concerns, ensuring the prompt reporting of any incidents and driving the Root Cause Analysis (RCA) process to implement Lessons Learned and continuous improvement.
- Monitor job site conditions consistently and enforce strict safety protocols to protect the workforce.
- Monitor compliance with relevant local, state, and federal regulations, maintaining a high standard of safety and legal adherence.
Desired Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (preferred).
Technical Skills
- Eager to learn and understand drilled shaft construction methods, concrete placement, and testing.
- Proficiency in computer skills (e.g., HCSS, Microsoft office suite, Revu Bluebeam).
- Familiarity with interpreting construction drawings, geotechnical reports, and specifications.
Soft Skills
- Excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Effective communication and negotiation skills.

Pay and Benefits
Tri-State Drilling offers a comprehensive compensation and benefits package including but not limited to the following benefits:

The expected pay range for this position is $70,000 – 90,000 with eligibility for performance based bonuses. Offers are based on various factors, including skill set, qualifications, experience, location, and other job-related reasons.
