New York Common Pantry is one of the city's largest hunger relief organizations, providing food assistance, case management services, senior food provision, nutrition education, and hygiene services. We are a dynamic, mission-driven organization experiencing rapid growth and expansion.
NYCP is a poverty-fighting organization that reduces hunger and promotes dignity, health, and self-sufficiency by using a holistic approach to reach over 122,000 distinct people -- over 729,000 visitors each year. Last year, we served over 11 million meals. Through an array of programs that we offer, we look to establish long-term stability for those we serve.
NYCP is seeking an Institutional Giving Manager to join our Development team. The Institutional Giving Manager is responsible for executing all aspects of institutional fundraising, including grant writing, reporting, and relationship management with foundations, government agencies, and corporate funders. This role involves strategic planning, proposal development, and ensuring compliance with grant requirements. It also requires strong communication, project management, and interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
The Institutional Giving Manager will report to the Managing Director of Development at the 8 East 109th, New York, NY 10029 location. The position is full-time, exempt. This role has flexibility for hybrid work but is required to be in the office at least three (3) times a week.
Responsibilities:
Act as the organization's lead grant writer and proposal manager guiding the grant process, including programmatic and budgetary needs.
Build and manage strong relationships with institutional funders through regular communication, meetings, site visits, and strategic updates, demonstrating responsiveness and professionalism.
Ensure strong collaboration with NYCP cross-functional teams for consistent submissions.
Act as a key relationship manager, maintaining trust and credibility with current funders while also identifying and cultivating new funding opportunities.
Manage a grant portfolio composed of corporate, foundation and government funders.
Create and utilize existing systems, templates, and strategies for grants management organization-wide, including proposal creation/submission; proposal and reporting deadlines list; review processes; communication with funders, and government portals.
Strategize with program managers to refine current programs and assist with developing strategies that support programmatic strength and growth.
Stay ahead of evolving program and fundraising needs to ensure understanding of progress against proposal outcomes.
Meet annual revenue goals and track performance against established benchmarks and pipelining tools.
Demonstrate adaptability and flexibility in response to changing institutional giving priorities; as well as trends in philanthropy, food insecurity and poverty in NYC.
Actively participate in development team meetings and contribute to the overall fundraising strategy.
Develop reports using Raiser's Edge NXT fundraising software as directed.
Draft periodic language (newsletter, acknowledgments, annual report writing.
Contribute to special events and projects as part of the Development team.
Other responsibilities as assigned.
A Bachelor's Degree is required.
A minimum of five (5) years of private and public grant writing experience.
Commitment to helping the communities in need and NYCP's work and mission.
Professional written and verbal communication skills, with excellent writing and organizational abilities (writing samples required).
Attention to detail and ability to multitask.
Ability to build and maintain professional relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including funders, program staff, and external partners.
Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach to working across teams, departments, and diverse stakeholders.
Strategic thinker with a proactive approach to problem-solving and opportunity identification.
Comfort in a fast-paced work environment and working under tight deadlines.
Comfortable working with and engaging individuals from diverse backgrounds and communities.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.
Knowledge of Raiser's Edge NXT or other fundraising database software.
Experience using project management software is a plus.
Familiarity with the NYC Foundation and corporate funders is a plus.
