Journeyman Welder/Fabricator

Job Purpose

• Dragline repair, maintenance and relocation.

Tasks

• Possess the skills, knowledge and experience needed to perform welding tasks safely and effectively.
• Work to be performed, but not limited to welding tasks to assemble, repair and fabricate components. This often involves using various welding techniques like MIG, TIG, and stick welding.
• Read and interpret technical documents, including blueprints and weld symbols, to ensure accurate assembly and repair.
• Hands-on experience in welding, especially in heavy machinery or construction settings.
• Familiarity with welding equipment and tools, including grinders, torches, and plasma cutters.
• Inspect welded joints and structures to ensure they meet quality standards and specifications.
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues that arise during welding and assembly.
• Working effectively with other technicians, engineers, and supervisors.

Detailed Work Activities

• Adjust equipment controls to regulate gas flow.
• Adjust flow of electricity to tools or production equipment.
• Align parts or workpieces to ensure proper assembly.
• Apply lubricants or coolants to workpieces.
• Apply solutions to production equipment.
• Assemble machine tools, parts, or fixtures.
• Assemble metal or plastic parts or products.
• Calculate specific material, equipment, or labor requirements for production.
• Clean production equipment.
• Conduct test runs of production equipment.
• Design tools, fixtures, or other devices for production equipment.
• Direct operational or production activities.
• Draw guidelines or markings on materials or workpieces using patterns or other references.
• Enter commands, instructions, or specifications into equipment.
• Feed materials or products into or through equipment.
• Heat material or workpieces to prepare for or complete production.
• Immerse objects or workpieces in cleaning or coating solutions.
• Lay out parts to prepare for assembly.
• Load materials into production equipment.
• Lubricate production equipment.
• Maintain production or processing equipment.
• Measure dimensions of completed products or workpieces to verify conformance to specifications.
• Monitor equipment operation to ensure proper functioning.
• Mount attachments or tools onto production equipment.
• Move products, materials, or equipment between work areas.
• Operate cutting equipment.
• Operate grinding equipment.
• Operate welding equipment.
• Read work orders or other instructions to determine product specifications or materials requirements.
• Record operational or production data.
• Remove products or workpieces from production equipment.
• Reshape metal workpieces to established specifications.
• Review blueprints or other instructions to determine operational methods or sequences.

Physical Demands

The employee frequently will sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, stand and walk as well as use hands and arms to handle, feel and reach. Individuals can and will be performing work in confined spaces and working at heights at times.

Vision

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision; distance vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

The employee is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather), work near moving mechanical parts; work in high, precarious places; with fumes or airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions; Extreme cold (non-weather); Extreme heat (non-weather).

Qualifications

• Must pass a weld test that will include bend tests. Satisfactory bend test results indicate the welder can handle the procedure parameters.

2 PLATES- 3G, 4G FLUX CORED Arc Welding ( 1/16" E71T Dual Shield Wire)

2 PLATES 3G, 4G SMAW Shielded Metal Arc Welding Stick (3/32", 1/8" and 5/32" ER7018 Rods).

• Must pass physical test including the following:

Respirator fit test

Pulmonary function test

Chest X-Ray

Drug screen

• Must be willing to travel as needed
