Job Description

Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues. 

Accountabilities

  • Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization's technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
  • Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
  • Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.

Embark on a transformative journey as a Market Connectivity Senior Developer at Barclays. You will be a member of the Cross-Asset Connectivity Team to develop Exchange Connectivity applications for multiple business areas. The connectivity applications are built on a distributed Java platform designed and developed to provide low-latency, high-throughput processing of messages. Additionally, you will be involved in developing and writing code, participating in design discussions, and providing production support. As a Market Connectivity Senior Developer, you'll have the opportunity to be a part of a regionally distributed development team, delivering both technical and business-focused solutions while you liaise with the Connectivity team heads and colleagues in other locations (London, Prague). You will also be involved in developing and writing code, participating in design discussions, and providing production support.

To be successful as a Market Connectivity Senior Developer, you should have experience with:

  • Core Java and/or C++, and developing/running Java applications under Linux

  • Multi-threading, memory allocation, caching, networking, distributed systems, algorithms and/or operating systems

  • Finance domain knowledge - systems providing trading, risk, middle office, or other finance services

Some other highly valued skills may include:

  • Knowledge of FIX, OUCH, Millennium or other financial protocols

  • Experience with network or platform engineering

  • Experience with scripting in Bash, Perl, Python

You may be assessed on the key critical skills relevant for success in this role, such as risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, digital and technology, as well as job-specific technical skills.

Minimum Salary: $170,000

Maximum Salary: $230,000

The minimum and maximum salary/rate information above include only base salary or base hourly rate. It does not include any other type of compensation or benefits that may be available.
