We're seeking a skilled
Network Technician
to join a results-driven IT team supporting a large-scale government technology division. This position plays a key role in maintaining and enhancing the agency's
network infrastructure
,
facility documentation
, and
data dashboards
. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on networking experience, a strong attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate across IT, facilities, and operations teams.

This is a
full-time, onsite contract
position based in
Columbia, South Carolina
, reporting directly to the Senior Network Architect.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain
    LAN and wireless infrastructure
    (switches, cabling, access points, etc.).
  • Troubleshoot and resolve network performance issues, ensuring root-cause prevention.
  • Maintain and optimize network documentation, SOPs, and system diagrams.
  • Support network and hardware design, configuration, and infrastructure planning.
  • Manage and update network inventory and assist in lifecycle planning.
  • Collaborate with facilities and finance teams to maintain accurate data on locations, floorplans, bandwidth, and assets.
  • Contribute to the development of a
    dashboard-driven system
    integrating facility, personnel, and network data.
  • Conduct physical audits and cleanup of network closets; maintain CAD/PDF "as-built" diagrams for multiple sites.
  • Perform
    cellular signal assessments
    to support SD-WAN carrier selection.

Deliverables

  • Network audit reports (with photos and patch documentation).
  • Updated floorplans and network layouts across multiple sites.
  • Monthly activity and progress reports.
  • Standard operating procedures and documentation for network standards.
  • Implemented and maintained facility data dashboard.

Required Skills

  • Knowledge of
    data network services, design, and configuration

  • Experience with
    fiber optics, network cabling, and telecom closet maintenance

  • Familiarity with
    office automation systems
    , hardware/software integration, and connectivity trends.
  • Ability to document procedures and technical configurations clearly.

  • Advanced network configuration and troubleshooting expertise.
  • Experience with
    wireless infrastructure

  • Strong skills in
    cable management
    , patch panels, and fiber optics.
  • Ability to present both technical and non-technical information clearly.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree
    in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
