The Greater Cleveland RTA is searching for a Payroll Specialist I

Detailed Description

The Payroll Specialist I is responsible for processing service retirement to ensure timely processing of retirements and disability retirements. Perform monthly reporting to OPERS Provide responses to the large earnings inquires and process timely reporting to Service purchase. Research past employees' wages for OPERS earnings.

Prepare, analyze, and reconcile Ohio Public Employment Retirement System reports. Process service retirement, disability retirement, refunds and service purchase forms. Resolve errors and balances to ensure proper payment is sent to OPERS monthly. Process supplemental forms and inquiries. Process special payrolls Longevity, Medical Incentive, Retros. Fill in for biweekly payroll as needed. Will aid in all W2 processes including adjustments and balancing of all boxes. Will confirm that any new codes are entered on the W2 correctly. Perform balance adjustments and ensure the payroll staff have entered assigned adjustments. Record Retention. Review all third-party payments and government requests. Prepare reports and data as requested by third party agencies as it relates to payroll. Ensure compliance with all court ordered documents and prioritize effectively.

Job Requirements

Preferred: Bachelor's degree, 3-5 years' experience, and must be a self-starter, able to multitask and problem solve.

Environmental Conditions: This person will work in both an office and garage type of an environment.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk or stand for up to 8 or more hours a day. The employee is frequently required to see, hear, and speak. The employee may be required to work at a computer video display terminal for more than 5 hours a day.

Mental Demands: Reading, watching, studying, observing, focused listening, auditing, inspecting, proofreading, evaluating. Ability to give, receive and analyze information, prepare written materials. Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); interpret policy, procedures and data.

Selection Process: This is a non-bargaining exempt level position. Merit system rules do not apply. No Eligible list will be established. The selection process will include one or more components to demonstrate applicants' knowledge, skills and abilities in job related areas. These may include exercises such as practical demonstrations, written communications, oral interviews and/or competency assessments.
