This internship is for Summer 2026. Only certain degree programs in Business Administration with a major in Economics, Banking, International Business, Accounting, or Finance are eligible for this internship. Applications must be willing to work within the Dallas Region for the duration of the internship.
Mission:
The mission of the Texas Department of Banking is to ensure Texas has a safe, sound, and competitive financial services system.
General Description:
The Texas Department of Banking's Student Educational Employment Program (SEEP) is designed to provide in-depth experience for students who have an aptitude for examination/auditing and have an interest in pursuing financial supervision and regulation as a career. The Department has one full-time paid position available in the Dallas Region for Summer 2026 for qualified students.
Program interns work under the supervision of team leaders and senior examination staff and participate on examinations of entities regulated by the agency. Work involves performing detailed assignments in recording, classifying, examining and verifying financial records, documents and reports, and assessing compliance with applicable state statutes.
The program is scheduled to run from June 1, 2026, through August 14, 2026, at the latest. (Chosen participant may choose internship end date.)
Qualifications
Required Minimum Qualification:
Education Requirements:
- The student is currently enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a graduate or undergraduate degree-seeking program;
- The degree program must be in Business Administration with a major in Economics, Banking, International Business, Accounting, or Finance;
- The student must be eligible to graduate within fifteen months of completing the SEEP program internship;
- The student must meet their university's intern participation requirements. i.e. classes completed, grade point average, etc., established by the university.
Special Requirements:
- Position requires at least 50 % overnight travel.
- Must possess or obtain within 90 days a valid Texas Driver's license. Satisfactory driving records are required for driving any vehicle to conduct agency business. Final applicants must certify that personally owned vehicles used for agency business have Texas minimum liability coverage and a valid state inspection.
- This position requires that the incumbent demonstrate strong personal financial responsibility and integrity.
- Final applicants may be subject to an employment credit check, driving record check, and criminal background check.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- The student must demonstrate above average verbal and written communication skills;
- The student must demonstrate proficiency in standard business software programs, including Word and Excel;
- The student must demonstrate the ability to perform detailed numerical work;
- The student must possess a working knowledge of accounting methods, systems, and business practices;
- The student must demonstrate the ability to gather, identify, and analyze information to make accurate and relevant examination findings and recommendations;
- The student must be self-motivated and able to follow established procedures involved in examinations and understand the overall operations involved;
- The student must demonstrate the ability to learn and analyze financial statements, reports, records, and forms;
- The student must demonstrate the ability to learn moderately complex technical issues and maintain complex records;
- The student must demonstrate the ability to read, comprehend and apply rules and statutes regulating the banking industry; and,
- The student must possess the ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.

This position requires the incumbent to primarily perform sedentary office work; however, mobility (standing and walking) is routinely required to carry out some duties. It requires extensive use of a computer, copiers, printers, telephone, and client/customer contact. The job also requires normal cognitive abilities requiring the ability to learn, recall, and apply certain practices and policies. It requires the stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions. Marginal or corrected visual, speech and auditory requirements are required for reading printed materials and computer screens and communicating with internal and external customers.
