About the Role

Total Wine & More is seeking a Staff Accountant II, Merchandise Accounting to join our Merchandise Accounting team in our Bethesda, MD office. This is an individual contributor role focused on supporting the accurate and timely processing of merchandise-related accounting transactions. In this role, you will be responsible for reviewing invoices, processing payments, reconciling accounts, and supporting both accounts payable and receivable functions. You will work under direct supervision, collaborate with team members, and ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards. You will report to the Manager, Merchandise Accounting.

You will
  • Review store invoices and purchase orders for accuracy, compliance, and completeness; upload and process invoices using Access, Excel, and Lawson Accounts Payable
  • Prepare invoice batches, ensure proper coding, mail check payments, apply payments in Lawson, and maintain accurate records of paid invoices
  • Resolve discrepancies by following up with vendors, store managers, and employees; manage AP Helpdesk inbox and escalate issues when necessary
  • Analyze vendor statements for omissions, research payment history, send monthly aging statements, and respond to supplier inquiries
  • Prepare schedules and reconciliations to support financial reporting and month-end close processes
You will come with
  • Bachelor's Degree or Associate's Degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field preferred, or equivalent years of experience
  • 1–4 years accounting experience preferred
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines
  • Proficient mathematical skills and strong attention to detail
  • Working knowledge and proficiency in MS Excel and Word
  • Knowledge of Lawson/Infor or other automated A/P systems is preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
