Radiology Extern

The Radiology extern, under the direction of a licensed radiology technologist, performs exams (diagnostic) ordered by provider. Assists in transporting and preparing patients, cleans and stocks supplies in assigned areas, and assists technologists as needed. This position utilizes Cerner and Hospital Information System (HIS) software programs and assists with Computed Radiology (CR) processing.

Performs exams (diagnostic) under the direction of a licensed radiology technologist

Assists the technologist as needed during imaging procedures

Attends to patients needs and promptly reports to a Technologist if unable to accommodate request

Moves or transports patients between hospital departments via wheelchair or stretcher or beds

Initiates and follows through with proper hand-off of patients

Ensures supplies are available and stocked in appropriate areas

Maintain work areas and equipment in a clean and organized manner

Uses portable O2 tanks and regulates O2 flow

Practices good infection control in accordance with related policies

Complies with radiation safety protocols

May perform other duties as assigned or requested and job specification can be modified or updated at any time

Required Education: High School Diploma / GED. Letter of recommendation from Radiology Program Director

Required Experience: Must be a second (2nd) year student (entering spring semester) in a radiology program

Required Certifications and Licensures: BLS certification
