Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('Versant') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. Job Description
The Associate, Ride and Show Engineering is responsible for overseeing, monitoring, and expediting the design and development of show equipment, and/or show action equipment, components and systems under contract with vendor(s).
This role may require frequent travel.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for scope development, bid & award, monitoring, and progress of design fabrication and installation and testing, by vendor for each show element. Reviews and evaluates activities of vendor and its sub-contractors on an ongoing basis with regard to product quality and compliance to specifications to ensure technical integrity and creative intent is met
- Provides oversight, field coordination, and direction for the installation of all show systems, equipment, and components as designated by Project Management Team. Primary Responsibility is Show Sets and Props. Other equipment may include, but not limited to, Show Action Equipment (SAE), Show Special Effects (SFX), Animated Figures (AF), Lighting Systems, Audio Systems, and Control Systems
- Manages the relevant show budget throughout design, fabrication and installation
- Manages the schedule of a given contracted scope of work, through project completion, identifying risks & opportunities, forecasting and communicating schedule impacts of decisions.
- Manages and coordinates Vendor preliminary and final facility interfaces of show systems, equipment, and components
- Develop and/or manage detailed coordinated schedules for all work by vendor identifying and managing critical path and resource issues. Leads production status and schedules reviews ensuring coordination with Project Team and Facilities Team. Monitors all budgetary production expenses for assigned contracts for the attraction
- Advises, coordinates, and is accountable to the Technical Director regarding the status and engineering quality of Show & Ride control systems including areas of risk or potential future risks.
- Manages the design and fabrication change process to accurately document contractual changes.
- Oversees mock-up, prototype, installations, test and adjustments of show systems.
- Validates that the facility interface is installed per plan prior to Show Equipment installation.
- Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established Universal Parks and Resorts policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.

Qualifications
- BA/BS degree from a four year college/university in Engineering, Project, or Industrial Management or equivalent experience required.
- Proficiency in reading and understanding mechanical and architectural drawings and technical documents.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Proficiency in generating and analyzing data in spread sheets.
- Analytical skills to perform basic engineering calculations for design and test of mechanical systems.
- Basic awareness of design for welded structures/joints, carpentry, paint, composite materials, manufacturing and fabrication.
- Basic knowledge of common metals (carbon and alloy steels, aluminum) and plastics/composites.
- Logical approach to problem solving and troubleshooting capabilities of mechanical and structural systems.
- Ability to read, analyze, interpret & follow pre-established Universal design specifications and industry standards (such as AWS, ANSI and ASTM F24).
- Ability & willingness to work overtime, weekends and holidays with short notice.
- Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to effectively present findings to a group of people with varying levels of engineering knowledge.
- Ability to work autonomously and in teams. Strong team player. Self-motivated.
- Ability to prioritize and complete multiple competing tasks and/or responsibilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
- 1-2 Years Design, production, and project/contract management.
Desired Characteristics:
- 1-2 Years internship experience in mechanical engineering, specific to the theme park industry preferred (medical centers, data centers, automated factories or other similar, highly specialized facilities also a plus).
- Knowledge of ASTM F24 standards, AWS D1, and relevant ASME/ASTM/ANSI standards.
- Proficiency in mechanical drawing software such as Navisworks, Revit, Solidworks and AutoCAD

- Required On-Site: This position is required to be performed full-time from an NBCUniversal-designated worksite.
