Duties

  • Assist pharmacists with medication preparation, dispensing, and labeling, ensuring all prescriptions are accurately filled according to medical orders.
  • Manage medication inventory, including stock replenishment, expiration checks, and proper storage following aseptic and safety protocols.
  • Prepare and compound sterile and non-sterile medications, including IV infusions, using aseptic techniques to maintain a sterile environment.
  • Support patient intake processes by verifying prescription details, clarifying medication instructions, and answering patient questions with professionalism and compassion.
  • Maintain meticulous records of medication administration, inventory logs, and prescription processing in compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure timely medication delivery for critical care, LTC (Long-Term Care), or acute care patients.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in medical terminology to accurately interpret prescriptions and communicate effectively with clinical teams.
  • Follow all safety procedures related to medication handling, including aseptic technique during IV preparation and infusion procedures.
  • Participate in ongoing training related to hospital pharmacy practices, medication safety protocols, and new pharmaceutical technologies.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a pharmacy technician in hospital or clinical settings, with familiarity in LTC pharmacy or critical care environments preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, medication administration procedures, and aseptic techniques required for sterile compounding.
  • Experience with IV infusion preparation and handling high-acuity medications is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide excellent patient service while maintaining accuracy under pressure in acute care settings.
  • Familiarity with pharmacy software systems used for intake processing and inventory management.
  • Certification as a pharmacy technician by an accredited organization is required; state licensure if applicable must be maintained.
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams in fast-paced hospital environments involving critical care or acute care units.
  • Excellent organizational skills with keen attention to detail for managing medication records and inventory logs.
