The Compliance Specialist I is an entry-level position into the McLane Compliance Department, intended for individuals who will be learning, under close supervision, how to perform the functions described herein in support of the Department's daily business activities.
Daily activities to be mastered include researching/monitoring state and local bills, regulations, and ordinances pertaining to the sale of regulated products (including but not limited to cigarettes, other tobacco products, eggs, dairy products, etc.; ensuring accurate and timely filing/processing of all McLane licenses to sell regulated products; generating and interpreting reports (including those listed below) from McLane systems in support of license applications/renewals; updating officer listings with various state regulatory agencies; ensuring accurate and timely filing of PACT Act reports and DBA/fictitious name applications.
This position is based in Temple, TX, which will require the candidate to report and work from the office on a regular basis. Therefore, interested candidates should be within a 50-minute commute to Temple, TX.

What You'll Do As a Compliance Specialist
- Monitor enactment of bills, regulations and ordinances pertaining to the sale of regulated products; research and analyze such bills, regulations, and ordinances to determine impact on McLane operations; present findings to Manager for review/approval.
Prepare/generate, under supervision:
License applications and renewals, ensuring entry of accurate, division-specific information.
- McLane reports (include those listed below), as necessary, in support of license applications/renewals.
- Electronic filings and EFT payments for license applications/renewals.
- Correspondence to licensing authorities.
- Correspondence to jurisdictions that have enacted (or are prepared to enact) bills, regulations or ordinances pertaining to the sale of regulated products.
- Correspondence to internal customers, as necessary, regarding upcoming product restrictions.
- PACT Act reports for each division.
- Officer update notifications.
DBA/fictitious name applications.
Audit Compliance Department activities, as assigned by Manager and Supervisor, to ensure accuracy of updates to Master License Tracker and Master Bill/Ordinance Tracker, as well as appropriate record retention of Compliance Department activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Manager and Supervisor.
Qualifications You'll Bring As a Compliance Specialist
- Minimum of 2+ years business experience, preferably in a regulated industry. Associate degree or some college preferred.
- Strong Microsoft Excel and Word skills.
- Detail-oriented, with excellent organization and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to organize, forecast and meet deadlines.
- Ability to perform basic research and obtain missing information, when necessary.
- This position requires the ability to read, write, and understand English at a level sufficient to perform job-related tasks effectively and safely. This includes understanding work instructions, safety protocols, and communications essential to the role. The requirement is directly related to the nature of the job and ensures compliance with workplace safety and operational standards.
