Maintenance Technician – Parks and Grounds

Summary
This position performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks in Parks & Grounds maintenance. Position also operates a variety of equipment.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
This position is supervised by the Parks & Grounds Crew Chief or their designee.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Position may act as a lead to part-time, volunteer and community service workers assigned to facility maintenance work.
Essential Function Duties and Responsibilities

- Performs skilled maintenance on city grounds, athletic fields, medians, and rights-of-way related to pruning, relocation and removal of trees
- Performs general maintenance on department equipment, such as lawn and power equipment, located throughout the City's parks, grounds and athletic fields
- Operates tractors, mowers, jack hammers, welders, trucks, steam cleaners, buffers, washers, and other equipment, as needed
- Assists with the preparation of facilities for all related recreation activities, special events, and tournaments
- Maintains detailed records and reports regarding the status of a variety of parks related systems, repairs made and related expenses
- Participates in the maintenance of athletic fields, landscape areas, playgrounds, and irrigation systems
- Maintains and adjusts specialized Parks equipment and tools, including chain saws, pole saws, tractors, mowers, carts, sprayers, chippers and stump grinders
- Assists with the operation lighting systems on designated athletic fields, basketball, and tennis courts lighting systems
- Operates a variety of hand, electric and air driven tools
- Assists in the training of part-time employees or community service workers
- Document work in approved work order software; log hours in daily work orders and special projects
- Performs duties as assigned during emergency response conditions
- Performs any other related duties as required or assigned
PERIPHERAL DUTIES:
- None
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent, and
- Experience in parks & grounds maintenance work
- Experience in a variety of trade and maintenance work
- Any related combination of education, training, and experience
Special Qualifications/Preferences
- Valid Florida Driver's License with a good driving record
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Certification may be required.
