PAY FOR BUILDING INSPECTOR:
Begins at $57,305 and is based on experience

Description:
- Performs site inspections of construction work, buildings, drainage erosion control inspection, and related systems for compliance with approved plans and with applicable codes; approves construction work during progressive stages of construction through site visits and inspections of footing, framing, gas systems, plumbing systems, electrical systems, mechanical systems, and final inspections.
- Coordinates inspection activities with owners, contractors, other inspectors, or other individuals.
- Performs zoning inspections.
- Completes records in a timely manner of all inspections done.
- Provides information concerning requirements of building codes and construction standards; discusses problem areas with owners and contractors; responds to questions or complaints concerning building or construction code violations.
- Issues certificate of occupancy when new construction is completed.
- Maintains a comprehensive, current knowledge and awareness of laws/regulations pertaining to building codes and inspection activities, and of changes in municipal codes or ordinances; reads professional literature; maintains building inspection certification and/or other professional affiliations; attends classes, workshops, and training sessions as appropriate
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must possess a valid State-Issued Drivers License.
- Must have a High School Diploma or GED supplemented by two (2) years of previous experience and/or training involving building inspections or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
- Must have certification from the State of Tennessee (Fire Prevention Division) as a Building Inspector, Mechanical Inspector, and Plumbing Inspector or the ability to obtain these certifications within one year of appointment.
- Must be able to correctly wear appropriate personal protective equipment when required.
