Field Engineer

Brief Description:
The Field Engineer utilizes their operational and technical knowledge to ensure that customer requirements are met by maintaining a high standard of professionalism, quality, efficiency, and safety during the completion operations. The Field Engineer is responsible for providing technical support on location, communicating effectively with internal teams on job progress, challenges, outcomes, and assisting reliability and sustaining groups while on location. The Field Engineer collects, analyzes, and reports operational and equipment data to optimize performance. The Field Engineer is responsible for initiating data acquisition recording of all fracturing treatments parameters, monitoring treatment performance, reporting chemical and proppant usage on a per stage basis, assisting in proactively preventing early equipment failures, and ensuring excellent job quality is maintained on site. The Field Engineer assists with training less experienced engineers and operators and provides leadership on location.
Detailed Description:
All Levels:
- Verify bucket test, review all pre-job QA/QC lab testing and ensure all required chemicals and proppant are delivered to location prior to starting the job. Collect oil, water, or chemical samples as needed.
- Verify, review and confirm all proposals and completions procedures prior to starting the job.
- Provide engineering support for complex jobs (pilot tests, breaker tests, viscosity & X-link checks), perform all pre/during-job required QA/QC testing and discuss results with internal engineering team and on-site customer representative. Document results in OIF.
- Present job design, proposals, specifications, pre-job lab test results and procedures to customers on job site.
- Setup MDT stream-out and data acquisition software in data van to record and transmit each stage's treatment parameters to the Performance Center prior to starting a stage.
- Confirm that all the chemicals needed for the job are on site and that the fleet has the BOLs for each chemical and with proper SDS.
- Input sand and chemical volumes into the OIF. Manage chemical variance during job and coordinate chemical transfers between pad moves with supply chain and vendors.
- Report all chemical and proppant volumes for each stage in the OIF.
- Coordinate with district supply chain and vendors to verify all orders are delivered in a timely manner throughout the job.
- Monitor all pump parameters, treating pressure, and rate during treatment and communicate with supervisor and customer representative if there are any problems or concerns.
- Address any technical questions or concerns from customers related to reservoirs, fluid systems or software.
- Monitor all internal and external deliverables from the Performance Center, ensure quality and provide feedback.
- Reconcile all jobs (volumes, billing, inventory) and complete final reporting.
- Be knowledgeable on equipment operations, limitations, and components.
- Assist with data van rigging up/down and maintain cleanliness in data van and assist field operations with rig-up/down as needed.
- Promote HSE values and perform job duties as per NexTier's safety policy and standard operating procedures as well as implement best practices for field operations equipment.
- Perform all other duties assigned.
Field Engineer 2:
- Address any technical questions or concerns from customers related to reservoirs, fluid systems or software.
- Monitor all internal and external deliverables from the Performance Center, ensure quality and provide feedback.
- Assist with the rollout and implementation of new technology and continuous improvement projects. Participate in special projects as assigned.
- Utilize engineering principles to analyze and interpret data and conduct research to diagnose problems and develop appropriate solutions. Identify areas for improvement to maximize operational efficiencies.
- Assist maintenance and engineering with root cause analysis on premature failures.
- Utilize Equipment Health Monitoring (EHM) and other technologies to improve equipment reliability and proactively detect early failures before they occur.
- Train and advise new engineers to abide by safety protocol and company policy and procedures.
- Perform all other duties assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
All Level Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering discipline or equivalent
- Able to proficiently use Microsoft Office applications, Excel, MS Word, etc
- Ability to understand and speak English at a level of proficiency allowing employee to issue, receive and respond to both safety and operations-related directions in English
- Must have valid state-issued driver's license and be eligible to drive Company vehicles including ability to meet requirements of Company's Vehicle Use Agreement and Driving Policy
- Ability to travel extensively to field locations
Field Engineer 1:
- Minimum nine months of field engineering experience in oil and gas, preferably in hydraulic fracturing
- Completion of Engineering School & Level 1 Controls.
Preferred Certifications:
- Intermediate knowledge of FieldPro & MDT software
- Completion of assigned Engineering Training. (Technical Handbook training, data acquisition software, basic frac fluid knowledge, pump operation standard training, and basic math and computer skills training).
- Has knowledge of NexTier policies and procedures
Field Engineer 2:
- Completion of assigned Engineering Training.
- Advanced knowledge of FieldPro & MDT software.
Preferred Certifications:
- Has knowledge of NexTier policies and procedures
Additional Details:
This position requires the person to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions, including precipitation, cold/heat, high wind, and turbulent conditions. Frequent travel to other Company offices and frack work sites, often in remote locations, is required which may be in all types of weather conditions (rain, snow, cold, heat, day, night, etc.) and employees will be expected to properly use designated personal protective equipment (PPE). The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, or walk with occasional lifting (overhead, waist level) from floor, bending and frequent near vision use for reading and use of computer, telephone and other office equipment.
