Position Overview

This role involves maintaining and repairing city equipment, vehicles, and tools, including welding and general operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine and preventive maintenance on diesel, gasoline, and hydraulic systems.
  • Welding & Fabrication: Create and repair tools and components for heavy equipment such as backhoes and grates.
  • Operational Monitoring: Keep accurate records of maintenance and fuel supplies.
  • Emergency Response: Be available to work during emergencies, day or night.
  • Pre-Operation Checks: Inspect vehicles and equipment for fluid levels, hydraulic systems, belts, hoses, tires, and pivot points.
  • Other Duties: Handle additional tasks as assigned.

Required Skills & Knowledge

  • Expertise in maintaining and repairing gasoline and diesel engines.
  • Understanding of hydraulics and electrical wiring in heavy equipment.
  • Proficiency with hand tools, welding equipment, and interpreting repair manuals.
  • Experience operating heavy machinery (e.g., backhoes, loaders, bulldozers).

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent with basic math and literacy skills.
  • At least one year of relevant experience.
  • Valid driver's license (or ability to obtain one).

Work Environment & Physical Demands

This position requires outdoor work in various conditions, including exposure to:

  • Machinery with moving parts, noise, dust, and grease.
  • Chemicals, extreme weather, and potentially irritating vegetation (e.g., poison ivy).

Physical activities include:

  • Lifting objects up to 100 lbs.
  • Standing, bending, crouching, and using tools for extended periods.
  • Climbing and maneuvering on equipment.
