About the Team:

Grindr is confidentially seeking a Controller to build an accounting department with defined policies and control environment to ensure an accurate and timely close process. The Controller will serve as the senior leader of the accounting and controllership function, overseeing all aspects of financial reporting, technical accounting, internal controls, and compliance. They will drive business performance via strategic financial guidance on accounting matters, alternative analysis, and systematic operational insights enabling Grindr to grow the business in multiple facets. This person will also possess experience across various finance and accounting functions, such as SOX, and have the ability to support the business more broadly. This executive will be a strategic partner to the CFO and senior leadership team, ensuring the company's financial integrity while building scalable systems and processes to support rapid growth in our dynamic, fast-paced environment.

This person will report to our CFO, John North, and will work closely with other business functions across the organization.

This is a hybrid role based in our New York City office and will require you to be in person Tuesdays and Thursdays.

About the Job:

• Oversee the timely and accurate preparation of quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other relevant standards

• Proactively identify financial risks and implement robust internal control systems to mitigate them

• Consider accounting implications and reporting implications as Grindr evolves its vision and strategic financial plans

• Lead and mentor a high-performing accounting team, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development

• Oversee the development and ongoing maintenance of effective internal controls to safeguard our accounting and close processes and enhance the reliability of financial information

• Drive collaboration across departments to enhance cross-functional understanding of financial processes and outcomes

• Streamline and optimize financial processes, leveraging technology and best practices to enhance efficiency and accuracy

Role Requirements:

• Previous senior experience in a public company accounting department and now as a distinguished Controller head at growth stage or public consumer tech company

  • 15+ years of experience in an accounting role in various stage businesses

  • Demonstrated distinguished performance in accounting leadership at past companies

  • Previously responsible for executing long-term financial strategy

• Top performer in trade

  • Proven expertise in accounting, being recognized at past public companies as a knowledge leader in this space

  • Holds oneself to a high standard of output and quality

  • Eye for detail to ensure perfection on all accounting fronts

• Ability to operate & think at an executive level

  • High-caliber individual who can lead and take charge in dynamic, ambiguous environments

  • Proven ability to identify and grow talent over multiple years while leading expanding teams

  • Experienced across finance to lead and work cross-functionally

  • Direct, concise communication style; writes and thinks well, can synthesize efficiently

• Role expectations, logistics

  • Collaborates well with executive team, particularly at the C-level

  • Strong values alignment

  • Active CPA
